Apparently today, some local rag allegedly quoted someone who made a comment about HW. Not sure it it is true, but it sounds like a combination of an erroneous perception of goodness and an enormous understatement*. "He’s a good manager, and I’m sure he’ll do well in his career, but he wasn’t right for us at that time and it led to a huge change in the structure and ethos of the club and the whole way we operate". *Light-hearted Sarcasm, and tongue in cheek intentions are applicable.

In the world we live in today you cannot be honest and you cannot criticise anyone. This is a sanitised publically acceptable version and probably not what the speaker really thinks.
Thats why we have forums like this!
Allow me to translate into oldboyspeak:
In his own mind he thinks he really believes he is a good Manager, and he can sell that image of himself brilliantly to naïve club owners, and so will probably BS himself into other jobs, possibly even higher than us. We found this out too late and after he had destroyed the heart and soul of the club and also changed our team into to a side doomed to relegation.
Better?

Well Oliver and Terry appointed him, so they probably wouldn't want to publicly slate his talents as it just makes them look worse. I think they've been fair in saying they know it was a mistake to appoint him. There's no point sticking the knife in - what happened, happened and we move on. We're lucky to have good owners and as fans we need to give them a break. Nobody gets it right all the time. If Wheeler had been a success, nobody would be questioning their judgement and few would still be pining for Jay. Football is a fickle business.

Yeah I know. I should have put some sort of emoji at the end of my comment that represents a combination of sarcasm and reading between the lines, but I couldn't be bothered to find one, so I have now amended my post.

Extra points for spelling of naïve!

Here's another sanitised quote:
"Jay was a massive part of the recent growth of this football club and we thank him for taking us as far as he could until a change in approach was needed for us to be a full-time football club, with a management team with that kind of experience. We wish him well in his career and look forward to bumping into one of his teams again"
.........and the Translation:
"We now regret firing and not giving more support to a club legend who was too helpful to us in running the club on a shoestring with no contract and driving minibuses, so that we had to get rid of him before we started to look penny pinching and foolish and then got fooled by a clown who sounded all professional but hadn't got a clue and forced us to hire the experienced management team we should have got in the first place. We hope Jay doesn't get a job with a club higher than us or in our league because that would make us look even more stupid for firing him but we don't mind him turning up with a lowly sticky team we can thrash in the FA Cup or FA Trophy"

oldboyspeak seems to refer to the owners of the club (albeit humorously) as being naïve, penny pinching, foolish and stupid.
Oliver Ash has said this week "If you’re the owner of a football club you don’t expect any plaudits, you expect to get criticism". "Some of the criticism has stung a little bit". "I’m not thick-skinned enough to not feel upset by some of it". "However, now is the time to look forward and as a whole club start getting back on track for next season."
Terry and Oliver have conceded they got it wrong with the appointment of Harry Wheeler. As Jayser says "we have good owners" and I agree with him 100% But they must be getting seriously pissed off by some of the supporters comments. Oldboy, it's time you backed off !

Nick, Nick, you are being way too serious............this was a satirical "game" about PC press statements vs the reality behind them, not an attack on our owners by me.
In appointing the Clown, they did have a fit of naivety, with Jay's PT regime and departure they made mistakes, and I thinks that's the "foolishness" they are actually admitting to!
I am NOT saying they are, in general, foolish or stupid at all - please stop taking a piece of fun and turning it into something it is not.
I have said on other threads many times that we owe our owners a lot for what they have done, and we could do a lot, lot worse in terms of circus club owners and I am a fan of Oliver in particular.
Nick, rather than me backing off, I think you need to take a chill pill!
