Maidstone United co-owner Terry Casey says manager Harry Wheeler is taking them to a new level
Terry Casey says Harry Wheeler is living up to expectations as Maidstone manager.
Wheeler has overhauled the squad since taking charge two months ago and Stones co-owner Casey is impressed.
They're through to the FA Cup second round and their next test in the National League comes at home to leaders Wrexham on Saturday.
Casey said: "He's delivered pretty much what the interview promised.
"It was clear from the interviews and the meetings how professional he was.
"But seeing it in action and in practice, you can tell by performances they're more organised, they're a team that knows their jobs.
"They know their roles and he's a real strategist and a real tactician.
"He links that up with good contacts in the game and is a highly organised performer."
Maidstone will host League 2 Oldham in the second round of the FA Cup, a tie worth £54,000 to the winners, after beating Macclesfield last weekend.
They are still to pull away from danger in the National League but Casey believes the new-look squad are showing they have what it takes.
He said: "To be honest, I knew we had to make changes and Harry has made the changes I thought he would.
"We had to reinvent ourselves and he's done it.
"We've supported him and he's just a delight to work with.
"He's so professional. Everything he does just takes us to a new level.
"The results are beginning to come good.
"I still think we've got a long way to go to beat relegation but we've got a much better chance than we had before.
"I think people who are watching this team are seeing a different approach to matches, a professional approach.
"We've got a very combative team now and I hope supporters are seeing a bit of light at the end of the tunnel."
Wheeler has achieved the squad overhaul while keeping a close eye on the budget.
Casey said: "To be honest, he's almost kept within budget all the time.
"He's very watchful about the budget, he's not been silly.
"He does drive us mad to sign players but that's fine, that's perfectly OK.
"The caveat to that is always the fact we say if you're going to sign someone you're going to have to let one go and he's always done exactly that."
