What ever happened to the wet coach and it's organiser? I understand the coach company pulled the plug after a word from the police

you will find the no alcohol drinking on a coach is a legal requirement and has nothing to do with the coach company or Tim. A coach can pull up to a pub or superdupermarket so idiots with more money than sense can spend ten mins getting totally bladdered, so long as they don't do it on the coach.

Has the legislation been changed? I thought it was the taking of alcohol onto the coach (other than having been already consumed) that was the offence and not just the consumption. Or did I get that wrong as well?

I think you will find that some (if not all) Public transport & Train Operating companies have a regulation banning the consumptiom of alcohol. Notwithstanding that there is a govenment ban on all persons travelling to a sporting event consuming alcohol whilst on public transport.

In the absence of a definitive response I've resorted to Google.
The following is taken from a site that says the legislation, as quoted, has not been altered since its introduction in 1985.
1 Offences in connection with alcohol on coaches and trains.
(1) This section applies to a vehicle which—
(a) is a public service vehicle or railway passenger vehicle, and (b) is being used for the principal purpose of carrying passengers for the whole or part of a journey to or from a designated sporting event.
(2) A person who knowingly causes or permits alcohol to be carried on a vehicle to which this section applies is guilty of an offence—
(a) if the vehicle is a public service vehicle and he is the operator of the vehicle or the servant or agent of the operator, or (b) if the vehicle is a hired vehicle and he is the person to whom it is hired or the servant or agent of that person.
(3) A person who has alcohol in his possession while on a vehicle to which this section applies is guilty of an offence.
(4) A person who is drunk on a vehicle to which this section applies is guilty of an offence.
So, my memory is not completely shot and having alcohol on the coach is an offence as well as consuming it.
In Googling this I discovered that the banning of drinking in sight of the pitch at National League level was introduced in 2005 as a direct result of "the success" of the Conference, as it was then, in maintaining a steady supply of relegated Football League Clubs bringing their nasty professional drunkeness into the non-league game.
I might have editorialised that last bit but in essence that is what the Home Office's Statutory Instrument said.
