Played 6 a side down The Gallagher last night and was surprised how dim our floodlights actually are. Is there a certain standard that has to be met does anybody know?

Conference 250lux average 100lux minimum at certain points for matches.(televised games may vary on requirement) Lights could be controlled to dim or cast off for training and other uses eg half pitch use where the level average could fall to 120lux drink carrot juice, just saying

During pre-season the town end lights nearest the river had three not working which must have made a big difference. I think I heard they were being upgraded this season but not sure if it's been done yet.

A: "Yes" - try watching where you are going or get yourself down to specsavers. A: "No" - then obviously the lights are plenty bright enough, stop your whining.

High time we switched to LED. Tenth of the running costs, very low maintenance, and needs much less current, so less strain on switch gear, etc. TV loves it too, as it doesn't cause flicker like normal lighting does.
High initial costs, of course, but getting cheaper, and would repay for itself quickly at a tenth of the running costs.
Can also play silly buggers with it, as it's easy to turn lights off and on. Imagine, not just goal music, but goal music with a light show!

Imagine, not just goal music, but goal music with a light show! Lots of scare mongering about the new LED street lights, cancer risk doubled, damage to eyesight, and loads of other spurious rubbish. Some people are already claiming our pitch causes cancer. Should we give them more ammunition for their unsubstantiated whining?

All explained by Bill in the programme. Hence one pylon shorter than the others during upgrade works.

Imagine, not just goal music, but goal music with a light show! LED lighting typically offers the same luminescence (measured in lux) as conventional lighting but for between 10-20% of the energy requirements hence the reduced running costs. Replacement life is also around a similar (inverted) measure. As a result this also means less power is required from the grid and burnt off by the lights (touch a filament bulb and then an LED to see for yourself) so converting ALL lighting to LED would be helping to reduce global warming. This is before we even start talking about recycling and landfill. Just saying.......

Southampton have LED lights, as far as I'm aware, the only 'top' club with them. It would be interesting to see if they do anything fancy with them. (But I haven't been there since they had wooden stands and a chunk missing out of one end of the stadium!)
