Piggot and Hines leaving has been the catalyst of problems but I don't think the midfield has ever been right. In the last few months of last season, Prestedge/ Lewis/ Paxman were very good - they all had their roles (Prestedge - sit tight and break play up; Lewis - harry, support the front players and get beyond them; Paxman - get the ball, look for the pass and also move into space). This season, no combination has been as good and it's showed. I think we've also missed Yemi - he was a good player to bring on especially. He was still quick, worked hard and had a level of experience at this level and above. Totally agree about Yemi. He was another one of those players who gave everything and inspired others to do the same - a game changer, as a sub too. We used to have several players like that, now we only have Lewis (who, for all his effort, isn't quite as effective). I'm afraid that this season's squad overall has disappointed, despite the higher wage bill, going 'full-time', etc. Compare and contrast with the squad we finished last season with. We wouldn't be in anything like this mess if we still had those players.

So JDL what players are we missing from last season that would of made such an impact this year and saved us from where we are now?

So last year our starting 11 that was winning most games towards the end of the season was
4-3-3
Worgan Twamasi, Coyle, Lokko, Mills Prestedge, Lewis, Paxman Pigott, Loza, DSY
That obviously changed a bit from game to game, but... Could we say that Coyle is better than Wynter or Lokko better than Finney? On paper not, but In my opinion Mills is better than Anderson. But let’s not forget although this team won loads of games it was clearly down to team morale and effort as we got done by Tranmere’s third team at home, which could only be down to players effort or mind set on the day given our form against other teams. So the fine lines between winning and not are very fine and it’s just not happening this year.

Just looked at Aldershot's fixtures this season to see how many goals BJT has chipped in. Erm... one, on his home debut. Still a good player though and a shame he left.

I think BJT leaving left us very imbalanced he was a very versatile player for us, shame it,s not really worked for him at Aldershot but I do think he,s had his fare share of injuries this season.

I liked BJT he covered a load of ground and was quite versatile. He never held down a regular spot in the National South or National Premier under Jay. We never managed to fit him in, which is probably why he left! To be honest if I had football league aspirations I would rather be at Aldershot than warming our bench most games.

Thinking back to the play-off final and looking at Dulwich matches this time - early this season DD was getting substituted a lot and booke da few times - but zero goals! Then seems to get dropped or injured late Sep. Wiki says he's still at Dulwich, but amazed at the zero goals bit.

Just shows that some players just don’t work in some teams with how they set up! Being so high up in the Bostick prem does kind indicate they create loads of chances tho! 🤔 Since we started in the National league against York when we drew 1-1, how many strikers have we had come and go..? If you include attacking wingers it’s got to be 10 gone not counting who we have left

So JDL what players are we missing from last season that would of made such an impact this year and saved us from where we are now? Good question - more of a wish than a substantiated argument, I'm afraid. But here goes: Definitely Flish and Mills (fit!), and a personal favourite of mine, Yemi - and BJT (if only for the pens - although I'd like to see him start more games). And, of course, The Pig. Not entirely sure about Lokko, but probably take a chance on him too. But what I'd really like back is the team spirit of those times, the self-belief and the desire. Generating team spirit has always (apparently) been one of Jay's strengths, but that seems to have waned recently. Despite my (slightly dodgy) nostalgia for last season's team, I still think the current lot are more than capable of avoiding relegation - what's missing is what we had psychologically last year. If Jay can somehow get that back for the remaining games, we're safe.

Further to go for away games, more expensive, better football (well, maybe), bigger crowds. Bit of a bummer really(!). Now need Dartford promoted and we have four Kent derbies.

If Jay can somehow get that back for the remaining games, we're safe. Flisher was never going to be anything more than an impact sub for us if he had stayed, he seemed to lose his edge ever since his injury, Mills I believe was matched by Anderson, this season if anything Anderson has been left wide open by the lack of cover from Loza in many games. Pig was never going to be here for too long he was a luxury we were lucky to have, the better he played for us the more other clubs wanted him. As for Lokko as soon as he rushed to leave here then the door should be bolted behind him, as a manager I would want a team of players who want to be in my team. Yemi is the only one I would of wanted to keep, I have already said BJT was a big loss for us. As for the sides attitude that is down to the management to install and maintain.

The number of away fans would reduce which means less income in tickets, drinks and food. We might as well stop segregating every game. Other than Chelmsford, Wealdstone, Torquay & potentially Hereford & Dartford no one will bring many fans. #dhfc 😀
