I'm creating this thread because I want to voice my support for Jay and I cannot bring myself to do it on a thread titled "Saunders out”. Imagine how pissed off you'd feel if you were Jay and seeing that the thread demanding you be sacked had attracted 340 odd replies (even though many replies are in support of him or are completely irrelevant to the title.)
I was going to write my own opinion on Jay but comments by Dave C, Dave U, NWS, JDL, jakeyboi and many others have articulated what I think. The comment that particularly resonates is by steveh21:
“Of course we can understand why people are frustrated...but there is a bigger picture here. Jay is one of our own and you do not throw one of your own under the bus after one season of struggle. We would not even be in this league without Jay's talents as a manager. You can argue about his team selections but surely he deserves our support at a time when he must be feeling so much pressure. As said above...football supporting is tough at times but you stick with it” Steve has nailed it as far as I'm concerned.
As for us staying up.
Firstly, it is possible – not probable - we already have enough points. Barrow have games in hand but poor form means they may not be able to make up a six-point deficit over the course of six games.
Secondly, Solihull Moors recent run of results is more down to good luck than good form if their video highlights are to be believed. Maidstone only need a draw tomorrow night and have little to fear from the home side.
Thirdly, each of three teams directly below us needs to outperform us over the remaining games. If just one of them fails to do so we stay up. Unlike the other teams we can also afford to lose two or three times as long as we win one match.
Good luck to Jay and the team tomorrow and over the next few weeks. These are the good times. May not feel like it for sure. But, we're playing in our own ground, in the centre of town, at National level. We might be struggling right now but doesn't it feel good compared to trekking out to Dartford knowing the club was about to go under or watching the first team play on the old practice pitch and trying not to swear lest we piss off the churchgoers next door. And we've got a local manager, who's respectful under pressure, has been successful and has proven his ability to learn every step of the way.

Couldn't agree more. However this thread like the more negative one will attract the same noisy handful who for whatever the real reason or motives dont support Jay.
As many others have already stated he has a shed load of credit and should be judged on what he can achieve with a competitive budget. He had no more money to spend to replace the quality of Piggot or Hines. You cant get players like that for free. It was Jay who brought them in to the club in the first place.
I doubt we would find another man who would put in the graft that Jay does. He deserves at least another season to show what he can do and hopefully be provided with the tools to sign the quality we all want to see.

Agree 100% with sentiments of distantfan. Personally I have no doubts about Jay's credentials for the job. I am very confident that the club's owners see it the same way and imagine that his contract will be renewed very shortly. I do think it is perfectly ok for other supporters to hold contrary views and expess them on this forum, but they should expect to get opposed ! The supporter circles that I hang around with strongly back Jay Saunders through both the good times and less good times.

Distantfan is bang on the money with his last paragraph. We have a club that is progressing in so many ways being managed by someone who has a passion for the club he used to support as a boy. Since 2011, we have gained a brand new stadium just off centre of town, we have gone from Ryman South to National League, we've relaid our pitch, built a new stand and there are plans to redevelop the ground further. You see the little improvements going on round the ground all the time. Bit by bit our infrastructure gets better and better yet all I see is whining because we ain't top of the league. Have the whiners not realised that we now face the likes of Tranmere (why not look up and see the respective positions of Tranmere and Maidstone United in 1997!), Wrexham etc who have bigger history than us, have mostly operated above us through history. While we continue to develop our infrastructure our playing side will suffer so we are doing OK if we stay in this league. If we go down I suspect it will make little difference to a great many of us. All we might lose is the people who just want to whine and whine and whine that it is never good enough. Back in 2012 I predicted we would get them as soon as we had indifferent/poor seasons. It is in fact a pleasant surprise that they ain't in greater numbers. To those of us that can be happy with the way things are going and can see the bigger picture enjoy the ride. We may fail to secure the points we require, we may survive by the skin of our teeth, who knows but at least we will be in our own ground, children will be able to come and watch Maidstone United and our history will go on...at whatever level!

I've been a critic of Jay before but on balance we won't get anyone else in who loves the club as much as he does. Yes, that's not enough, but whilst some things he does are a topic of debate I don't believe he is inept unlike a lot of other managers at struggling clubs.
I honestly believe if he had a better budget he would be able to get the real players he wants (rather then sweep up the left overs, obscure loans, or hand me downs from other clubs in the league as they've signed a better player so that one is surplus to requirements) to make a difference and improve on this and last season.

Well done Distantfan 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 We should have done this earlier. Let’s show the club there is plenty of support for Jay!! I love the point about him being local and a supporter as a boy and this in my eyes gives him a connection to the stones supporters that should not be overlooked at the 1st sign of trouble. You can hear in his interviews how much he cares for the club. If people just want money thrown at the team and managers sacked and replaced every season then just go and watch a premier league team. These are eaxactly the reasons I have lost all interest in the PL. Jay has more than earned our continuing loyalty.

At last some common sense, whatever the outcome by the end of the month the real supporters will keep supporting the team and the club. The club is building its future back in the town and, as has been said before promotion to national was quicker that all expected. The club has done well and with a bit more luck with injuries to key players at key times and without the loss of Piggott especially would have been in a better position at mid table.
You can bet that the whole team and support will be giving their best to stay up and the fans need to stop sniping at individuals and get behind them BIG TIME!
No More Crap but a lot more Clapping COYS

Brilliant thread! So much better to open up this site and NOT see other thread prominently displayed.
Although I can't agree that Solihull's results are mostly luck - check out the form tables. They haven't lost at home since November 11th!! On current form (4, 6, 8, 10 games), Solihull are at 6, 8, 11 and 11, whilst we are at 22, 19, 19, 21. As I wrote elsewhere, Tuesday's game is crap side visiting good side at home fortress - if Jay gets anything at all out of out of that it will be bloody incredible.
As for Jay's situation - he has built up so much credit with all the good times he has given us, that he deserves solid support from us for a long time yet. A club with our history should know that there are much more important things than short-term success. It's good that we're back in the 'Conference' where we belong, but I enjoyed the IS days just as much, if not more. We've made a lot of compromises to get from there to here (watching the game with a pint, non-segregated matches, increased admission charges, long away travel, etc), let's not go the whole hog and turn into the sort of club that sacks their manager just because they're struggling. If you want that, go and watch the Gills, or Palace - Maidstone is not that sort of club. And long may it stay that way.

Secondly, Solihull Moors recent run of results is more down to good luck than good form if their video highlights are to be believed. Maidstone only need a draw tomorrow night and have little to fear from the home side. Having seen more Moors games than Stones games this year, as I live up that way, I can tell you that Solihull have not been lucky - in fact they have probably deserved more that they have got ! After a dismal start to the season and the week-long reign of Richard Money, the appt of Mark Yates and Tim Flowers has transformed the team. They are now unrecognisable from the team that came to the Gallagher and fought for a point. They have also benefitted from the return of two players who were sold to League clubs, Jamey Osborne and Omari Sterling-James. These guys followed Marcus Bignot to Mansfield but he left and it didn't work out so they're back. (Pigott and Hines anyone ?) So whereas we could have legitimately considered tomorrow night a straight-forward three points back in November, I suspect that Solihull could probably think that way now !! I keep hoping that we will pull a random great performance out of the bag - and tomorrow would be the perfect time to do it. As I mentioned elsewhere, Liam Daly, Solihull's main centre-back, got a straight red on Saturday, so he'll be missing, which is a big blow for the Moors. I think we need to go for it tomorrow and hope for a little fortune in front of goal. To beat Solihull almost guarantees our safety. COYS !!

The Saunders out was always the wrong debate !!
Instead it should be what are the owners aspirations next season if we stay-up. Will the owners be able to fund a players budget that will enable the manager to get in quality strikers etc (and keep them) to allow a run for the play-offs.
This will cost a lot of money and the dichotomy is between stress testing the current business-model or another lacklustre campaign that will see attendances and income go down

It would be ridiculous if the vocal minority got what they wanted simply because they shout louder than the rest of us, so it's good we can show our support in a way that isn't swamped by the unremitting negativity.

I wouldn't worry about upsetting any football manager with non support on social media. Do you not think they kinda guess before they get in post that it's likely to be part of what they sign into? Bit like it being very unlikely to be the post they will stay in for life.

This is such a healthy and positive thread. Who knows whether we will stay up or not? Whatever happens Jay is the man to lead us next season. He has earned the right whatever happens. I just hope he realises that most real fans understand the journey we have been on for more than 25 years and not just since 2012. He watched us as a boy, played for us during the dark days of Ashford and has managed us to the dizzy heights of the National League. COYS.
