Orient were doing ok at the time and are a well followed club. It was not unrealistic to expect them to sell their allocation and thus try and get home tickets instead.

All that does is nullify segregation. The Ebbsfleet play off final showed that, even going with a face to face inquisition, people will dissemble (that's another way of saying lie) to get tickets.
Were there to be trouble at the game and there were away fans in the home area - and I'm not allocating blame for this hypothetical trouble - how well does the club come out of it saying that, whilst acknowledging the game should be segregated they relied on individuals ticking an online box as the only method for determining what tickets these 'anonymous' buyers could get?
No segregation system can be expected to be fool proof but its pretty foolish to provide a signposted route to bypass it. Especially so as this was - and still may be - expected to be one of the largest away crowds this season.
Having said that we've been to a number of grounds this season where buying tickets for the away 'end' online has been encouraged with no checks.
Do you really think there are hordes of Leyton Orient hooligans trying to bypass segregation in order to attack the home section? I try not to think - it hurts too much.
However, its the decision to segregate all matches that has created this issue. Once it has been decided that segregation is required, because of a perceived risk, then, irrespective of the opponents, it has the potential for being criminally negligent to actively provide a system to get around it.
Given those circumstances and, in a hypothetical world where I was a director of a football club, given the choice between getting a few more people attending and leaving myself open to criminal prosecution in the probably unlikely case of something going badly awry I think I know which route would give me the happier Xmas. But that's just me.

What could work is an on line booking scheme that we register for before the start of the season maybe linked with supporter club membership. This gives you the ability to order tickets for all games online For those of is who do not live local and can not get friends and family to buy our tickets for us it would be a God send

And what is to stop Orient fans turning up at the Gallagher and buying tickets in the home end? Our accents are not so different. An online ticketing system could weed out E10 residents in the Maidstone section by requiring a home address. More secure and convenient for everyone.

Probably the same thing that is stopping the - potential - hordes of missing Stones' fans, a combination of inconvenience and laziness.

At close of ticket sales today Leyton Orient had sold 573 of their 600 allocation. So if we have sold close to 3000 then tomorrow will not be far off the capacity. Which for seggregated games is around 3800 I believe.
