NWS in a rare moment of lucidity talks about a Hall of Fame of pivotal / bizarre / outstanding Stones games - most of which seem to have been away from home over the years IMHO. Here, in alphabetical order because I'm a spreadsheet nerd, are some of the best:
Abingdon*
Altrincham 7-2
Arras
Beckenham (late win)**
Brighton*
Burnley
Burton
Calais*
Cambridge playoff (either)
Charlton (either)
Cheltenham**
Dartford (Lyndon's goal celebration)**
Deal, winning KL**
Dover (sponsored walk)**
Dulwich, winning Ryman League
Ebbsfleet playoff
Faversham playoff
Folkestone (staying up)**
G*lls (Boxing Day)
G*lls (FA Cup 1980)
Halesowen**
Halifax (Trophy)
Kidderminster 6-3
Littlehampton*
Lydd
Mildenhall
Milton Keynes*
Moonshot
Newport IOW**
North Leigh*
Peacehaven & Telscombe
Peterborough*
Reading FA Cup
Rochdale away
Runcorn, winning Conference
Salisbury (H) Trophy
Scott Sports Reserves
Sevenoaks (promotion)**
Sheffield United
Slade Green (3-3 from 0-3)*
Southwick
Stafford last game at London Road
Stevenage (either)*
Swindon
Tonbridge (Cup)**
Tonbridge (sponsored walk)
Tooting & M 4-3
Torquay (Trophy)
Tunbridge Wells 1st KL game
Walton & Hersham (H)
Walton Casuals**
Watford
Welling at P*****field
Woking last season**
Wrexham (Cup)*
Wrexham (league, away)**
Wycombe
I was at 24 of those (starred - 2*s = grinning from ear to ear and totally hoarse afterwards... Cheltenham is definitely top 3)
There should probably be a Ramsgate game in there. The Cup game? The 0-0 when we didn't win the KL? Also possibly Horsham YMCA and Leyton away, both bizarre surroundings and exceptional refreshment servers...
Add your own, a Top 50 with a John Peel-esque Xmas Countdown is required.
There are some games which seemed massive at the time - Cup v Wimbledon, Boreham Wood, Leatherhead; Trophy v Salisbury, Woking - which don't really seem worthy of getting on the list. Leatherhead, if any of those do.
Games like these make up for periods of gloom - I remember going to I think it was 8 games and only seeing us get 1 goal from open play, a Roland Edge goalmouth scramble v Harefield. Ryman Premier 1st time round was not fun.
