With this weekend's preview in mind: Anyone have any memories of the Trophy quarter-final tie in 1987? The initial game took place on the day the Herald of Free Enterprise sank and the minute's silence was interrupted by presumably drunk Burton fans singing. The replay at Burton was one of the few games (I think) involving Maidstone when there was actual crowd violence. Every FA Trophy result we ever had is listed here incidentally ... fchd.info/MAIDSTOU.HTM

I was at both games and the first match was tarnished by the Burton fans singing through the minutes silence.Maybe they didn’t hear Mick Mercer’s announcement or they were just a bunch of knuckle dragging c**** we will never know.As for the replay,i recall Terry Sullivan had a perfectly good goal disallowed and the referee was absolutely biased towards the home side. The trouble afterwards was pretty vicious and one fan in particular took a very bad beating. The opinion on the way back was our singing of ‘sign on,sign on with a pen in your hand’ etc didn’t help matters on the day one of Burtons biggest brewery’s made some of the knuckle dragging c**** redundant.

But I obviously didn't think this is an outfit that will be in the FL let alone the championship in years to come, as I would remember that!

According to a history of the Stones written by a fanzine editor that was neither Bryan, Fred or myself this was the year we reached the final.

I was at the first game but not the replay but can't remember anything about the game. I guess my copy of the M.G book is a later edition as the Trophy win has been omitted.

I'm guessing not, but have we ever played Burton competitively since those fa trophy ties? I don't think we have ever been in the same league. That might need to be all ticket whenever and wherever in whatever competition it happens!!

Exeter at home in 1982 fa cup York at Watling street Stockport at Watling street Wasn’t there trouble at the Charlton FA cup game too?

Newport and Corby away. That's straight off the top of my head. Yeh there's been many more I'm sure

But, if the listings for Maidstone teams is anything to go by, it is unfortunately not to be trusted. Compare and contrast the three listings for Maidstone teams - it could almost be the same team in places... Note also that MK has NINE entries. Most of these are name changes, but it still proves that the excuse for moving Wimbledon to MK because MK didn't have a football club was absolute bollocks.

The actual Maidstone United section is very accurate for the last 40 years or so and most of it can be crosschecked with fa.com

Yep seen it now. The FA Trophy was won in 1986-87. At least there are no match reports.
