Quite so Spurstone - All the local councillors I have met have a genuine interest in improving things for their local community, whilst you might not always agree with them and they sometimes put to much faith in the bureaucratic advice of the "officers" they are by and large good people.
Tonight is surely a victory for local democracy?

Great. Take note, Dave U. Us mucking about on the messageboard made no difference, despite the claims of barnabus. One councillor was interested in what happened if we moved on. This was a point put forward by barnabus. Luckily his foolish postings on the messageboard didn't scupper things and we got what we wanted. Hooray.

I've known quite a few councillors in my time and most of them do it because it makes them feel important. Most of them aren't really up to the job either. A few really are there for the right reasons and some are doing it as an 'apprenticeship' before moving on to national politics, but most of them are the sort of people you wouldn't actually let do any sort of important job. The irony is they don't actually have much power - but everybody blames them if something goes wrong (when usually it's the government or KCC's responsibility). Seriously?! Every bit of your post is so wide of the mark! Sorry mate. Never mind, bit off topic and we should be happy with tonight's outcome. COYS. Well, each to his own. I was involved in local politics for quite some time and even stood in a local election, so I was quite familiar with both councillors and the council, and that's my opinion of them/it based on those experiences. Admittedly, that was back in the 80s, but I'd be surprised if things have changed that much.

My 30 odd years of knowing how various Councils work and Councillors is how my opinion is formed.
