Thought I'd move on from the Woking game (good performance by us but too much coverage of poor behaviour by a small minority). Will Jay be bold again and go with 4 strikers, probably a more pragmatic approach this time. Not the most local of games for a Tuesday night but hopefully a decent following for the Stones, I'm going for a Maidstone win by the odd goal, hope to see you down there.

guessing that Johan Ter Horst will be on the bench with Jai Reason back in midfield unless Alex Finney finds a place
Mr Saunders is never wholly predictable with his selections

guessing that Johan Ter Horst will be on the bench with Jai Reason back in midfield unless Alex Finney finds a place Mr Saunders is never wholly predictable with his selections Ter Horst played really well in the first half on Saturday but he ran out of steam early in the second, he clearly isn't fit enough for 90 minutes yet and so I think it has to be the bench for him. Away against Eastleigh Jay will surely go back to a front two. If Hines is fit (presumably he will be as he only appeared to get something in his eye) he may start him in that attacking midfield role because he was excellent there on Saturday. If you take him away we're likely to revert to too much hoof ball again and that's hardly ever productive. You can't go too defensive just because you're away otherwise you get beaten anyway - you need a goal from somewhere. Reason was excellent when he came on and I'm sure he will play instead of Hines in that advanced midfield role if the latter isn't fit.

I imagine he would have recovered by Tuesday.

It was disappointing the way TH ran out of steam, but, once he's fully match fit, it should be fantastic having his talent for the whole game. After watching Hines on the wing and in the middle, I think centre mid-field (or a sort of roaming role, like Flish had) is the best place for him. With his skill he can outwit most defenders, but on the wing, all that means is he usually gets the cross in, or wins a corner. But as we usually fail to convert crosses or get anything from corners, all that skill and effort is wasted. Whereas if he beats defenders in the middle, he is right on goal - and he's invariably in the right place to pick up loose balls or knock rebounds back in. As for playing defensive when we're away - why? OK, if you're at Liverpool and facing the Kop, or visiting 'fortress' Upton Park (RIP), but at this level? At Eastleigh?

Obviously, it is because we don't have this great 3g advantage that everyone keeps on about

As for playing defensive when we're away - why? OK, if you're at Liverpool and facing the Kop, or visiting 'fortress' Upton Park (RIP), but at this level? At Eastleigh? In the week, after the Hartlepool game we were discussing the fact Ter Horst and Hines give you that option of running through the middle at defences rather than going long, and Saturday turned into a brilliant demonstration of that thanks to Jay's bold team selection. Hines was running at them from all angles whilst Ter Horst, although principally asked to play on the left of the three front men, Was moving about a bit, switching at times and cutting inside. Having those two plus Delano and Pigs is a defence's worst nightmare because picking up all four without playing your midfield too deep is a tricky task. I'd be surprised if Jay doesn't play that formation regularly at home, provided the right personnel keep fit (and not suspended!). In Lewis and Prestedge we have two great ball winners / holding midfielders, which allows you to have the luxury of an attacking centre midfielder who'se only job is to try and hurt the opposition raiding forward in a 4-3-3. Those midfield areas are something we really struggled with last season. It's certainly all looking good at the moment. With Reason in the squad and Jam to come back after Christmas (probably), we have the depth to play those attacking formations if we want, even when someone is unavailable.

Heavy rain and high winds from 8 onwards according to the BBC weather website.
I've never been to Eastleigh, but from the map it looks like it could be quite exposed. If so, the weather's going to make this game a complete lottery.
Mind you, with the recent history* of their pitch, maybe there won't be a game!
(*relayed in the summer, but not ready by the beginning of the season due to problems (drainage?) which took ages to sort out)

If DaveU is he will have a hair malfunction If 'here' is Eastleigh, regrettably, no. No way I could make a 4:30 KO for the coach. I was looking forward to a fair few 'local' aways this season, but I'm going to struggle to make half a dozen the way the fixtures have come out.

I don't think Dave ventures out in inclement weather...
Anyone else having problems with Stones Live? It's fading in and out horribly. Could be my 'hi-fi' set up, but it sounds more like they're having problems with their levels or mics.
