Ebbsfleet have "Cheer, cheer, here come the Fleet". Cheesy but iconic. Aston Villa were gobsmacked lil old Fleet had there own song. And it has made the club a few bob. Remember this one well! Cheer cheer here come the fleet. The biggest bunch of wankers. That your likely to meet. I was seven when I heard that version.

With all the anti pyro stuff on the other thread, why don't the team come out to "Holy Smoke" by Iron Maiden?

I prefer "They are the team with the smelliest feet". That made us chuckle.

That's true. I admit I'm old and irrelevant (45) but amongst many of my generation, clubs that have goal songs are considered a bit embarrassing. Everyone takes the piss out of those clubs as gimmicky and lacking fans. Maybe I'm out of touch but I wouldn't fancy the piss taking from every other team. Can you name me one major club who have goal music? Everyone does? I take it you've asked every single football supporter to make that statement then?

Goal music is an abomination. It simply emphasises the lack of atmosphere generated by the fans, and we certainly don't need it. Crystal Palace have it, and they are known for having one of the best atmospheres in the premier league, so how does that work then??

How they keep up that atmosphere with so many of their fans now watching Maidstone instead, is a mystery.

Can you name me one major club who have goal music? Everyone does? I take it you've asked every single football supporter to make that statement then? Ok you got me there. I'll change 'everyone' to 'everyone I've discussed it with' and everyone surveyed in an article I read on the subject although as that may have been in 'When Saturday Comes' so the pool of people surveyed may not have been representative. That showed that fans of clubs that have goal music were embarrassed about it and fans of other clubs pitied them. Palace are indeed known for their atmosphere but I'd say that the atmosphere would be as good without the goal music. They also have cheerleaders but I don't think they add much to the atmosphere, nor do I want them here. At least Palace's goal music is in effect a short chant that the fans might be chanting anyway when they score so it's less intrusive when it kicks in than other songs. For most clubs who have it, it's either a gimmick by a chairman in a shiny suit who uses the phrase 'blue sky thinking' , or an admission that the fans of that club don't make enough noise when they score. Apart from the general tackiness, I have a few, practical objections. First, the embarrassment of the disallowed goal where the music kicks in before the goal is chalked off and the music is still blaring out as the oppo take a quick free kick. Second, the embarrassment of hearing 'Simply the Best' or something similar gatecrashing a muted celebration as you grab a 90th minute consolation in a 6-1 defeat. Third, the embarrassment of smashing a lower league team in the cup and having it ring out every few minutes as you approach double figures. That's no way to win with class. Finally, an aesthetic point. Can you imagine Martin Tyler's "Agueroooooooooooooo" where the camera shook as the Etihad went crazy, but with the sound of 'Blue Moon' or something droning I'm the background. Some goals are joyous. Some are a relief. Some are breathtaking. Some just cap an easy win. Some are consolations. They all get a different reaction based on the circumstances and that's one of the things that make football the beautiful game. I'd love a proper, staged build up to matches at the Gallagher with he atmosphere gradually built by a proper setlist and where someone has balanced he PA so the whole ground can hear it and I despair at our lack of planning in this. But once the match kicks off, I want football and fans to work together and react together without the imposition of 30 seconds of inappropriate, crass, enforced jollity. I'll get me coat........

Hartlepool, Halifax and even Ebbsfleet play that Tom Hark song. Not as goal music though. It's something that the vast majority of our fan base would be against and I'm pretty sure won't be happening here. Good to see the reaction against it on here too.

I would be quite happy to hear "The Great Escape" if we were to score a last second equaliser or winner.

As Softlad has mentioned it, when are we going to get a PA speaker in/near the Town End left side, so we can hear the teams etc?

We do. Until the start of this season it was Fire by Kasabian. For some strange reason they have changed to Seven Nation Army this year. Strange choice in my opinion. can't think of many (any) other clubs using Fire but Seven Nation Army is pretty common. I think we should dust off the old "stones, stones, come on you stones.....let's have another one in". I said no very loudly at the Aldershot game in early 1990 and I'm sticking to it!

Now I'm thinking about it, didn't the players come onto the pitch at Watling Street to the beginning of 'Fanfare for the Common Man'?

As Softlad has mentioned it, when are we going to get a PA speaker in/near the Town End left side, so we can hear the teams etc? Get a hearing aid! Ha. To be fair, I don't have the world's greatest hearing (years of playing gigs probably doesn't help) but I've stood and sat in loads of different places in the ground. In some areas, the sound is deafeningly loud and in others so quiet, you genuinely wouldn't know we had a PA as it's totally inaudible.
