I don't think anyone expected a full first team squad, but since it was advertised as a first team fixture on both clubs" websites it's not delusional to expect at least some of them to appear for 45 minutes. For them to send an under 23 squad is just plain disrespectful, almost as much as you suggesting we waddled through three promotions in four years. I would suggest three in four was more of a sprint than a waddle.

Fact - advertised as bringing first team. Some people are having difficulty understanding what was actually said/advertised. Certainly some thick fuckers out there! I would have expected like probably 3000 other fans that have got tickets, at least half a dozen first teamers. So when you come on here, facebook and twitter etc banging on about, what did you expect the first team. Yes I f**king did, it was advertised. Also the 800+ Palace fans coming were not expecting to see just the u23s At the end of the day Palace are a let down and should be classed as tinpot

Thats how we all started remember your either maidsone or your not I know I am and proud of it .stonydave . I don't think anyone expected the full strength Palace starting 11 to play 90 minutes but 'first team', as everyone else has mentioned, was advertised absolutely everywhere and that to me suggests at least a decent handful or Premier League talent, not an under 23 squad that nobodies heard of, and certainly isn't worth paying 15 quid to go and see. I don't get your nonsensical rant and i'm not going to try to understand it. The points everyone is making are simple: 1 - Crystal Palace were bringing a first team. Both websites advertised this and still do. That is probably just about worth £15, so everybody parted with their money. Now that's been changed, we've not bought tickets to the same thing and they are now effectively grossly overpriced. It's like going to the cinema and Odeon showing a version of Batman that some students made. 2 - Nobody is questioning the validity of it being a celebration of our team and the achievements we've made, but they are questioning the manner of which the spirit and occasion of the day has now changed. I don't know about you, even though I'm there to support the team, but I'd much rather see us play an actual Palace first team and I'm sure the majority of the other 4,000+ attendee's are of much the same opinion... 3 - The timing. 2 days before. I'm sure people would have still come if we were playing the Palace under 21's, but tell us a month in advance, not 2 days. 4 - People saying 'You didnt really expect to see the Palace first team did you?' - Yes... yes, of course I did because that's exactly what we were told we were seeing. Why would I assume I would see anything else? It's like ordering a burger and getting Lasagne, the two things are completely different. 5 - It is disrespectful. You know Palace wouldn't do this at any of the foreign fixtures they are playing in because that is all about making money and expanding their market. They will not play a full under 23's side in Hong Kong. To sack off both us and Basingstoke is easy though, but it doesn't make it any less shitty.

The problem with what you're suggesting means that WE are having to make all the compromises despite Palace being the ones who have moved the goalposts. Fyi the game v Southend under 21s I think is already £5

If Palace had any decency about them they would give our club £20,000 and say use it to give everyone who comes through the turnstiles a fiver refund. At the end of the day why should Maidstone lose out when it's them that have decided to send a bunch of nobody's to play our team.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how the squad is shaping up and maybe a couple of trialists. It may not be Palace's first team, but should still be a good test. Any money made will go towards the player budget, which is fine by me. My enjoyment on the day will not be affected by the presence or absence of a couple of minor PL players. It is billed as a celebration of five years at the Gallagher; and what an incredible five years it has been.

Great post Holysmokes.
No ones blaming Maidstone.
Palace will surely remove their heads from each others arses and send down 3 or 4 first teamers to keep the peace, they will see this as the sensible thing to do.......!!!!!!!!

Almost immediately after the fixture was announced, Palace fans were predicting they wouldn't play their stars so close to the plane leaving for Hong Kong. Palace have to take the total blame for the fiasco as they knew their schedule. To dress it up in terms of saying the new boss changed it to an under 23's fixture is to make a huge excuse for what was always a scheduling error on their part. As for them selling all their tickets, you have to remember they have a huge local support in this part of Kent. On the forum I saw a few weeks ago, the mood was, we're unlikely to put out the first team but we'll go anyway because it's on our doorstep. There will be a lot of fans wearing their colours who haven't travelled very far.
