...I urge all Maidstone fans to applaud their fans and their team for what has been a fantastic season for the Imps. Show them what a classy set of fans we are.

When Arsenal denied Liverpool the league title (and double) in 1989 by winning the final game of the season 2-0 at Anfield, the vast majority of Liverpool fans stayed behind to see the Arse lift the trophy and applaud them for doing so. I was proud to be a red that night and on countless other occasions. I hope to be proud again his season whatever happens with Lincoln and Tranmere.

Agree - but ALL decent fans, not just non-league. For what looked initially like a season that would have a very un-Stones-like boring ending, and then, for much longer, a very stressful ending, we are lucky that we are going to end safe and enjoying such potentially important games. Imagine what it's like to be Southport - virtually the same end of season as us, but knowing they're relegated. Much rather be in our position!

This is all a bit déjà vu for those of us of 'mature' years - if Lincoln do win the league it will be their second National/Conference promotion.
They were the first League side to be automatically relegated (in 1987 - when Scarborough were the first to be automatically promoted), and went straight back up the following season.
For those who enjoy a trip down memory lane, this was the final table for that season:
1 Lincoln City 82 2 Barnet 80 3 Kettering Town 75 4 Runcorn 74 5 Telford United 70 6 Stafford Rangers 69 7 Kidderminster Harriers 69 8 Sutton United 66 9 Maidstone United 63 10 Weymouth 63 11 Macclesfield Town 63 12 Enfield 55 13 Cheltenham Town 53 14 Altrincham 52 15 Fisher Athletic 52 16 Boston United 49 17 Northwich Victoria 47 18 Wycombe Wanderers 46 19 Welling United 42 20 Bath City 37 21 Wealdstone 32 22 Dagenham 21
Not a great season for us, but we made up for it the following year...

Happy to applaud the team. Don't really see what the fans have done to deserve it though. Guess the fans deserve the applause just like stones fans deserve applause for following there teams home an away all season. But that's the point isn't it. Their fans achievements are no different to supporters of other clubs all over the country, but no one's suggesting they are all worthy of a round of applause. The team deserve all the praise they get, but the fans haven't done anything that our fans haven't.

David look take off your tinted spectacles, when a club is applauded for winning the league by another club, for example Stone vs Lincoln, we are applauding EVERYONE connected with that, from the chairman down to the fans, who support them week after week. Nothing more than what other clubs have done for us in the past.

I seem to remember at the home game v Lincoln the pitch being under water and should have been abandoned.

When I applaud our team off at the end if the game I'm not applauding the fans. It will be the same with Lincoln. I just don't get what their fans have done that millions of other fans across the country haven't. You might just as well applaud the fans at Wimbledon when Andy Murray wins.
