Bearsted v Ashford for me. Ended up as a surprising 1 - 0 win for the Bears at a sunny Honey Lane. A good crowd, pepped up by maybe 75+ noisy ones from Ashford saw a first half noteworthy only for a succession of off target shots by Ashford's Rory Hill and a stream of poor language from the Ashford bench. Second half saw Hill's shot deflected onto a Bearsted post before Ashford's giant & noisy keeper Kamurasi was ( correctly ) sent off for handling the ball outside the area & being 'last man'. 10 man Ashford continued to dictate, with Hill coming close multiple times but they went down to 9 men when centre back West was sent off for 2 yellows, the second being a really soft one. Inevitably numbers told, and Bearsted's goal with about 10 mins to go came from a handling error by stand in Ashford keeper Shaun Welford, who pushed a cross straight up in the air to leave a simple tap in. Even with 9 men, Ashford still pressed, but with no end product, and there was a very angry end to the game with the Nuts & Bolts seething about the red cards. A total of 9 ex stones involved playing ( G Andrews, Lyall, S Flisher, Hart, Mooney for Bearsted, Davisson, Hill, Welford & Stone for Ashford ).

I wonder if Watty can do it? It's a hell of an ask - they need 14 points in the last 10 games to survive (and the three above them to lose all their games!). He managed to stop the rot with their first point in 19 games last week, but they're only playing two of the teams around them in their run-in, so looks pretty much impossible. Very odd feeling, caring about Margit - but it looks like it isn't going to matter that much anyway. All the best to Steve for next season though - he might be another JS in the making... Honestly, I think they'll go down but he is already making some good signings and I reckon they'll do well in the Ryman Prem next season. Watt had huge experience playing at all levels of the domestic game, and has the temperament to be a leader. If he has the tactical nous to go with it he should do well as a gaffer. He is, like JS, well connected which always helps when searching for players. They actually won a game today - that's a two game unbeaten run! 2-0 at home against Gosport Borough (fellow relegation candidates) - pen in the 88th minute (with a GB sending off) and a 95th minute goal. Quite an end to the game! Still a mountain to climb, but a good finish to the season will keep Watty in place, so he can show what he can do in the IPL.

Twice in one day Porkystone. I was at the other top of the table clash at Crowborough v Deal Town which must be one of the longest journeys in the old Kent League! On a very sunny afternoon the Crows, who were slightly understrength went a goal down before half time much to the joy of the away supporters who kept reminding the home fans they had won the F.A.Vase seventeen years ago.The Crows equaliser came soon after the break but they couldn't break through the Deal defence for the winner. Gloomy faces all round until someone mentioned a strange score from Bearsted. The Ashford v Crowborough re-match on April 1st should be a cracker! The joys of non league football!

The child in me just loves the fact that the Bears play at Honey Lane.

Gotta say I thought ex Stone Rob Lyall was the best player on the pitch.

Gotta say I thought ex Stone Rob Lyall was the best player on the pitch. I was interested to see Sam Flisher, who I thought looked better than this level of football. I was also reminded that at this level the use of industrial scale language on the pitch ( & off it ) is an essential motivator. Lyall did well because big Shaun Welford is still a threat.

FWIW from reading yesterday's programme there doesn't seem a great deal of love between Bearsted & Ashford, & the programme editor rates Cray Valley, Whitstable & especially Crowborough as best equipped for promotion.

Just for info we went on a 'spying mission' to Woking 0 v 0 Boreham Wood today - low quality physical battle on a 'dead' pitch with a fair bit of sand on it - Delano played (7/10) subbed after about 70 mins - 1 save by BW keeper in last 5 mins - otherwise no goal worthy efforts - so nothing to fear from either side really, but BW will be hard to break down - Woking played 3 5 2 and best players were wing backs no.2 & no.14; & striker no.9 - Delano was ok, but didn't get the best supply unlike when he was with us. Woking are a totally passive crowd so our supporters WILL have a great day there - roll on on 25th March! COYS ⚽ COYS ⚽[/quote]

Buxton 2 Blyth Spartans 2 cracking game, Buxton took a 2.0 lead, Blyth rought it back to 2.2 then one of their defenders clearly handled on the line, guess who the one person who didn't see it was?
Should have been pen to Buxton and Blyth down to 10, and their were plenty of other chances for a winner not taken by both teams
Would have gone to Kingfield had I not been up north

As I am already in Manchester, having planned to see The Stones, I will partake in either Oldham v Bury (but it could a bit nasty), Preston v Reading (as my mate from Manchester is a Reading fan) or Wigan v Bristol City. I thought it was people in Reading are Manchester United fans... Lol, yeah - he moved to Manchester to escape London
