Maidstone United’s New Year match against Margate, on Saturday 2 January, will be all-ticket and segregated.
There are two reasons for this:
The game has been ticketed to help manage the attendance on the day, especially as it falls during a Bank Holiday weekend. Although capacity at the Gallagher Stadium is higher than last season, so are the average crowds. Running as ‘pay-on-the-day’ could have meant turning people away once the limit had been reached.
A separate home and away section is simply because a large number of Stones fans watch both halves from the Town End and authorities had concerns that too many people might want to be behind the goal at that end during the first or second half.
Club chief executive Bill Williams said: “Our previous New Year fixtures have attracted capacity crowds, so we have taken the decision to make the comfort of all supporters a priority. Going all-ticket keeps numbers manageable and avoids that nightmare scenario of having to disappoint people on the day.”
Maidstone United season ticket holders already have their pass for this match. General ticketing information will be announced next week.
Margate and Maidstone meet on Boxing Day at Hartsdown Park. This match will be pay on the day and not segregated. More information is available on Margate’s website.

What a shame. That is one I could have attended as well.

Looks like we can blame the Town End for the game being segregated

Is the fact that we're playing Margate on Boxing Day and New Year's day part of a league policy of having local derbies on these days to avoid pressure on public transport and the roads? Is this a rare example of the league actually making a sensible decision for the benefit of fans?

At the Yeovil game especially the Town End was far too packed so I understand the logic behind this. Unfortunately there's nothing that can be done to stop people squashing in when there's already no room other than create some more raised areas in the ground.

For more years than I care to remember it used to be a regular occurrence throughout the leagues that local teams would play each other during the Christmas holidays, however money and TV scuppered it, let's hope they can start to do this kind of thing again

Margate have been given 400 tickets, not sure if they'll sell that many given their form, should be about 1600 on sale for home supporters.

Unfortunately there's nothing that can be done to stop people squashing in when there's already no room other than create some more raised areas in the ground. It was surprisingly unpacked on the right hand side. For the Stevenage game we couldn't get into the Town End it was so packed, so we got there early for Yeovil, but there was room to move around both halves.
