My current dilemma is where I think Frenchstone will stand at this one.

Shame it's only meant to be a friendly, I am looking for the day we draw them in the FA cup or get promoted to league 2 where we will inevitably meet them... I am on bloody holiday for this one, but I hope to god we don't lose, I could do without that when I go back to school
it may end up being like the charlton game earlier in the season, no one really took it seriously.

For a Kent Cup game that got a decent turnout. A Gillingham XI should be weaker than a Charlton XI in theory and we should also be stronger + will probably have more first teasers on the pitch. I wouldn't expect us to win but we probably could.

For anyone thinking Gills (fans) wont take this seriously, take a look at kent sports news on Facebook. The potential for this to blow up big time needs looking at. Sometimes pre season friendlies can be worse than cup or league games as the police etc are unprepared. When we played them at Sittingbourne a few years ago and won 0 0, it went ok, but were much bigger now, back in town and it hasn't gone unnoticed by those in medway. Sorry to come over all negative, just don't want the club to have problems after the event as weve had before.

You had to be there man. It was most definately a 0-0 win for us! The gills manager was not a happy man due to the fact his team (majorty of the first if I remember) couldn't put the ball in the onion bag) I think quite a few of there fans were most upset as well

They were locked in the changing room for 40mins+ after and Hess had food and drink chucked over him by his own supporters. They also had to hack down our striker in a clear one in one to stop us scoring. Ok it was a friendly but it was also Kent League vs a full championship side.

I'm a little confused Maidstone United have never been in the Kent League, they started in 2012 in the Rymans South, maybe you are confused with another Maidstone United, I do hear some old men at the games talking about such things but I put that down to their age and them probably being confused.

Gillingham play Brighton at home just 48 hours after this match so I do not anticipate many of the first team playing at Maidstone. Not sure this friendly is such a good idea really.

Gills fan here in peace To be honest I can't see there being any problem at all at the game. You might get a few mouthy little chavs taking the 101 for a night out but that'll be about it. I'd love to see us playing you lot in the FA Cup or (preferably) as a league fixture again in a few years. I'd imagine the rivalry has faded somewhat as far as the majority are concerned and the fact it's only a development team will dissuade most people. Anyway, (genuine) congratulations on your promotion, all the best for the coming season (except when you play Sutton, who happen to be my favourite non-league side). Cheers Mark

Yeah, can't get too excited about this. It's a bit like being reunited with a relative you don't miss much, but it's right it should be done. Might go, might not. Would love the chance of an FA Cup giant killing or a properly competitive match. But then I'm not bothered if we never reach the league again.
