I've been waking up in a cold sweat the last few weeks...
We qualified for the playoffs, we then went on to win them....
The Conference then upheld their ban on 3G and because we couldn't take up our place in the Conf South, Tonbridge were given a reprieve.
.....every cloud, eh!
Welcome Home Mangels

Prior to this season I wouldn't have said I'd be pleased at the misfortunes of other Kent clubs getting relegation, however this season has been different.
Aside from the lack of 3G support (not that I ever thought we'd get their support)it's been the attitude towards us and our manager/players that has shown the true colours of certain clubs. The "abuse" Frannie and Worgs got for joining "MFI" and taking voluntary relegation (Oh the irony) was something else, and likening it to Sol Campbell moving from Tottenham to Arsenal was just ridiculous.
I find it interesting therefore that Tommy Warrilow has in effect highlighted the destructive nature of social media with it's "negativity". He has also highlighted the "budget" he was working to and also the fact he seems to have offered his resignation some weeks ago.
Whilst I appreciate fans pay to watch their team and therefore have a right to an opinion I think it's something we can learn from.
Clearly the budget couldn't accomodate Frannie and Worgs and perhaps it was their chairman who opted for voluntary relegation because they simply didn't have a sustainable business model which allowed them to continue in the Conference South.
Given their complaints about the quality of football, budget, postponements, crowds etc etc their vote against something that would assist in these areas is even more puzzling, although of course Tommy Warrilow was publically in favour of 3G, which of course gave him the label of being a traitor.
Arguably budget, is the main factor in determining how well a club does over a season and more often than not the teams with the highest budgets are the ones who occupy the top places come the end of the season. The measure of a good manager is how well they use the budget available to them, who's the better manager Jose or Pulis?
The comment from the Bognor bench on Saturday "we need to get promoted, we have to get promoted" suggests (to me) they are desperate and have been given the budget to go up to Conf South, and it's almost as if they've only got "one shot" at it.
And although the figures are not made public, Jay was given the budget whereby the co owners "expected" him to be challenging for the play offs (this was a public statement) and therefore Jay has done exactly what has been asked of him, and given the injuries (or excuses, depending on how you look at it) I'd say we are just about where we are where we need to be.
One thing's for sure, our football club is heading in the right direction.

If you remember, we did get a corner Ah yes, not our greatest day, remember a steward trying to throw Trolley out for having a ciggy on their roll off terrace! He said 'look mate we're 7 nil down you'd be doing me a favour' The steward just shrugged his shoulders said fair enough mate and wandered off! And that fcuking parrot gets on your tits!

The thankful thing for me on that day was I was living a 5 minute drive away. It didn't take me too long to get home and cracking the beer open

Best exchange on their forum:
If you don't like it go and support Maidstone or tun wells or even better Sevenoaks if you don't want to do that go and watch juddians
Well lets face it, watching the Wells is cheaper and you're more likely to see an entertaining game. I know of a number who've decided to watch them instead, and to be honest, who can blame them?

Oh I don't know Huw. I enjoyed a post about going back to being the big fish again. I don't know if they noticed but their average of 417 at home would have put them 7th in the Ryman Prem. Ourselves, Wealdstone, Dulwich, Lewes, Lowestoft and Bognor all higher.
I surely hope that they are not going to suggest that their crowds will go up again if they are doing well. That would make a mockery of calling the majority of the Maidstone support plastic.

Trigger is a very naughty boy on their forum. However, I am enjoying the answers.
Dan, dan the lavatory man (the super cool admin) is asserting that we have the biggest ever budget in the Ryman prem. Oh dear and we are epic failures for not getting in the play offs. He bases this on a month of Luke Rooney. I don't know if he has noted that we have been blooding a lot of our young ones as well. Still he never was a fan of facts.
Trigger is tld off for going on their fourm and gloating. Hang on....but didn't they do that on ours and other forums when we were relegated?
We also have a post about most of our 1800 not knowing about us playing in other towns for 15 years (I could have sworn it was less than that. I've lost some time somewhere). On such a point I wonder where the 2000 missing people from that glorious win over Lowestoft have gone? I think I would rather be gaining 'plastic' fans than losing them.
Oh the irony and enjoyment of the posts

Alright squire. Hope you are well. I haven't got the technological capabilities like you younguns. Don't worry, we once lost 7-0 there (after getting beat 4-0 at Hastngs on the Tuesday). I travelled from Rugby to both games. Dark days. If the Conference relent or are forced to relent over our pitch then I would expect a rise in budget and a push from us next season. If not I am not sure that our owners would want to spend loads chasing nothing. Maybe we will not join the back of the queue

Relegation is tough to take, (and I've just noticed the reaction you're getting to posting the potential Ryman League clubs for next season), but it may actually be exactly what the Angels needed to rebuild.

as a fan , you have no choice but to accept it i had embraced the idea of relegation in about october , it is what it is , i will continue to go to games in the hope tnat we win a few , and i will hope that they idiots in the ryman can schedule our matches ( if played ) at a sensible time , not the first midweek tuesday of the season , which is bound to happen

The Mangels fans are generally a deluded bunch - even Man U fans are more realistic than them. They haven't the fans to sustain a place in the Conference South - but think they should be mid table each year. Notice how Tommy Warrilow goes to mention that their fans need to manage their expectations a lot better in the Courier article. Doubt they ever will.

I appreciate you're talking about it being 7k a week and therefore a pretty big budget, but I'm pretty sure it's not the highest in the current crop of Ryman clubs which kind of backs up the argument regarding the Ryman Prem being a difficult league to get out of. If 33% of our gate goes on players wages (which is probably the highest overhead) then I'm ok with that..........I refer to the recent story coming out of Salisbury !
