I can't believe nobody's mentioned Barming. I lived there for years. What's to mention about it? I grew up in Barming and if I ever mentioned the place, people would often remark that it was the 'posh part of Maidstone. I was just surprised Barming didn't appear on this thread, that's all.

When i worked for Loder and Paynes back in the day,I found that when you were out on the van doing furniture deliveries, the so called working class areas would always tip you, yet the Posh areas, never tipped, in fact they would not even offer you a drink, i recall one hot august day, carrying a load of heavy furniture upstairs to a bedroom, wardrobe, bed, chest of drawers and so on, and a women walked passed carrying a tray of cold drinks to a group of people in the garden, and never even offered us one! SO by my calculations the poshest place was BEARSTED PARK, GROVE GREEN and LOOSE.........

Park wood, bell road mid 1990's era gd times I think you may have thought I'd mispelt a Scottish word in my title, Pezza. I assure you that it was 'poshest' that was intended.

I worked as a Tesco Home Shopping driver for 5 years and found exactly the same - even pensioners would give us a few coins or offer us a drink, but the rich bastards never gave you a thing. I did one drop for a wedding at a posh place out in the country - a whole van load of booze and food. We were only allowed 9 minutes a drop, so single van drops were a right pain - you always hoped they'd help you unload. But, no, I got no help at all from this lot, AND I had to barrow it all round the back of this place - took me ages. I was a hot day and I was knackered at the end of it. I thought as it was a wedding, they'd be in a generous mood, but, no, not a penny, not even a drink. And, because the drop took me 40 minutes, I lost half an hour off my lunch break!!

We never tip, that's why we can afford to live in the better areas. Keep giving your money away in tips and gratuities and you'll end up living in Gillingham.

Since when did paid supermarket delivery drivers expect a tip? I tip for excellent service, not just turning up and dumping crates on my doorstep with half the items wrong anyway.

I know we are going way off topic now, but that is what i hate about America, the while place is obsessed with tipping, I mean they expect you to tip the bar staff in boozers and even Mcdonalds has a a jar on the till they expect you to put your change in!
When i worked in LODER AND PAYNES, I was on Y.T.S, so a few quid here and there certainly helped your cash flow.

It can be really annoying, worst thing was about being a drivers mate, was the driver would get you to run around and make up bed and so on, just sit there chatting to te customers, then secretly pocket the tip!
