Making sure you differentiate between the original and current incarnations, as the current Wimbledon have never been in the premier league, nor (in spite of what the might have you believe) have they ever won the FA Cup.

Surely the name itself is differentiating?
The previous incarnation was called Wimbledon The current is called AFC Wimbledon

IIRC (it's all on wiki under re-election I think) mid-70s Wigan and Wimbledon voted in, Southport and Workington out; late 60s / early 70s Cambridge and Hereford joined the league at the expense of Barrow and Bradford PA. Previous newest member of the league joined in the 50s, Shrewsbury I think. My list is since automatic promotion came in. Well well Oxford you lived in that fair City ! Oxford were voted in 1962 replaced Accrington Stanley who the eck are they then Accrington replaced oxford strange but true !

What is the highest position a non-league team have achieved after joining the Football League? Has anyone ever made it to the Premier League? Newton Heath FC ex members of the now defunct Combination League did OK also.20.times champions of England,a few European cups Etc.Also Thames Ironworks FC went from the Southern League to winning the World Cup in 1966.

Shrewsbury and Scunthorpe both joined the FL when it was expanded in the early fifties to 92 teams along with Colchester and Gillingham, hence leaving the Southern League with just three Kent sides, Dartford, Gravesend and Tonbridge who were admitted the previous season along with Hastings. The only other sides really local were Chelmsford and Guildford City and the League covered a far greater area than the present Conference South. Apart from Headington(now Oxford Utd) Bath City ,Hereford,Gloucester,Worcester and Weymouth there were also trips to 4 Welsh grounds - Lovells athletic(long since defunct),LLanelly,Barry Town and Merthyr Tydfil who were very strong in those days. Add to that Exeter and Torquay reserves. There were also four others whose names escape me with my failing memory.

Thanks for that Stainese. Are we both forgetting Kettering? I seem to remember Chingford Town didn't last long but not sure who replaced them
