Isn't today the day that the Conference Chairman visits the Gallager, and have a chat with the club about our 3g pitch. Hope he actually listens and opens his eyes to what we are doing here. Would love to be a fly on the wall when Oliver talks to him. We'll see in the future weather he has any sort of back bone, I suspect not though.

Sounds about right him turning up with the fa game on tonight. I fear nothing will change. And after reading Bills page in the programme saturday it sounds like he dosnt either. Unfortunatly i think we should all prepare for the worst as common sense never prevails with these old farts who make the decisions? I hope im wrong. Good Luck Oliver. Your going to need it !

My thoughts are they will allow it on the condition we change it within 3 years (or something like that), what is clear is that we wont be tearing the pitch up in the near future as it holds the key to the future of the football club.
The owners have also been quite open in with regard to how far they will go in order to gain acceptance, this may result in bad publicity but you know what they say about all publicity !
The other option the Conference may take (and I have no idea whether they can do this) is to give all the other member clubs a vote on acceptance, and of course the default thought will be "it gives Maidstone an advantage" and so I don't fancy our chances if they go that way. If we had a grass pitch and another club with a 3G pitch was trying to gain admission to our league, I'm not sure own owners would support it as it wouldn't be in our interests (unless of course they were Man Utd or Chelsea)
It's a shame he's not coming on a match day though as I think our attendences will be a key part of whether we get accepted or not.

But does it give us an advantage, played 10 league games at home, won 5 drawn 5. One guy from Hornchurch was heard to say 'see you at our place where you can play on a proper pitch' Perhaps it's not just league officials we need to preach to but other supporters as well.

While not expecting a vast change in attitude, or any dramatic announcements, is there any indication how this went?

There will always be a few dissenters, but the vast majority of opposition supporters I have spoken to have been in favour. The most common comment is that after a few minutes you forget it's not grass.

In many peoples eyes it's still a plastic pitch and the spectre of the horrible carpets of QPR and Luton still come to mind. Like many now i often forget it is not grass when watching a match . I feel there is a big need to educate to show many just how far the 'plastic' pitch has come but , burying the carpet reputation will not be easy . How many of us were sceptic le or even hostile to the idea of a 3G when it was first announced ?.

That's why the club has such as strong case legally. The Conference must defend its position which is looking more and more daft. It may claim the Premiership don't like 3G.. but if their clubs really don't like it then surely they would refuse to play on the surface in Europe???

And let's not forget, the two Conference South teams to have played on our pitch this season have walked away with probably their biggest pay days, what with the prize money and the share of gate receipts.
I know it has nothing to do with 3G but I just wonder how inclined the Conference will be to drag their name through the courts again, given what's happened in recent years with Truro, Farnborough (both financially and more recently a player failing a drugs test)

I think they were in the Ryman Premier!

The end to the season will be very embarrassing for the conference,I know we still have a lot of games to play, but I just cant see us finishing below the playoff places.
Will they actually bar us from promotion if we have just won a league, or bar us from a playoff semi final, which could lead to a club that has finished 6th in this league gaining promotion to the Connie South.

If you really think we have the strength in depth, to even get anywhere near the playoffs this season, I admire your confidence, and your optimism, but just for the moment lets say every other club gets a severe bout of dysentery, and we sneak in to the top five, becoming Champions, will lead to a bun fight between us and the Conference, with Oliver leading from the front and a posse lawyers in hot pursuit with bundles of writs and silvery wigs, whilst maintaining a watchful eye on his wallet, if we end up in the plays offs, we get to play in them, After all we are a Ryman Club, and the Ryman rules state that we can play on our carpet, and if we win the play offs, Then Oliver gets the chance to have his bun fight anyway, As for those that think the answer is easy, and champion the fact that we could just "digit it up" I am afraid that your missing the point.....we are not going to dig it up, its here to stay. well until we have paid back most the 2.5 million quid these guys have invested in a step 6 football club, and some filthy rich bloke from Gillingham turns up on our door step, promising us Champions league footie in five years...
