Mrs Headstone and I went for a walk in Mote Park this afternoon, I wore my Maidstone hat to see if it produced any reaction. Not a lot ie none, for a long time, but on our way back two dog walkers separately asked if I was going to Ipswich. They weren’t, but had family / friends who were lifelong supporters. This match has raised the club’s profile massively.

Because only season ticket holders go to away matches, obvs. You’ll be “offered out” if you insinuate that season ticket holders make up any more than a handful of the away support on the facebook group… Scarily tribal. Sorry, what is this Facebook?

We ended up chatting about football for a few minutes. Mrs DaveU asked me if I talk about The Stones to everyone I meet and I have to say, for the last couple of weeks it seems that way.

Someone posted on twitter that when they got theirs there were 1600 left. I was about 100th in the queue yesterday my mate were about around 500 back, they got there tickets and there was 73 left. There has defo been a lot of tickets given to players and staff etc if it was two per season ticket holders, obviously we don't know how many but guess this could be why a lot of people missed out. There wasn't 2000 available yesterday that's for sure It would seem so. I would add that several season ticket holders will not have taken up the full allowance, such as my group of 5.

Popular part of the ground before and after home general release. Although there are loads of tickets in less popular areas. Surprising how many restricted views there are for a modern stadium.

All very depressing, people should be careful what they wish for. Hopefully when the time comes Terry and Oliver hand over the reins of the Stones to the right person/people so Maidstone don't end up in a similar position again. On Reading, I think we'll survive one way or another even if it means reforming as an AFC (hopefully doesn't come to this) as like Maidstone there are enough people that genuinely care. Also we have been close to the brink twice before in my living memory once when Robert Maxwell tried to merge us with Oxford and around 1990 we were close to bankruptcy before John Madejski rescued us so keeping hopeful. (Sorry all for putting this in wrong thread).

They were wonderful years for the biscuitmen, where they just missed out on promotion to the top flight with that missed penalty at 2-0 up and the Bolton fightback. I have lovely memories of Elm Park and away games. The 3-1 win at Tranmere in the semi-final of the play offs (with Dariusz Wdowczyk running things from centre back) still ranks as one of the most commanding performances I have ever witnessed. This was, of course, under the marvellous John Madjeski. The Royals need another like him, not the clown running them now.

View AttachmentView AttachmentDecent ground but not 'modern' I concur, many grounds have been refurbished in terms of infrastructure, but the superstructure of the stands - particularly the away end at Ipswich which despite being built in 1971 isn't their oldest stand - are as they were originally. On the bright side, it means it isn't a soulless bowl in the way so many new build stadiums have become.
