Almost impossibly to call this on the stats...
We are one place and one point above them in the table, although with a game in hand - they have scored one more goal than us, and both sides have conceded the same. And on current form they are 7th and we are 10th, but they have only one more point than us. Difficult to get the proverbial fag paper between the two teams.
But - and it is quite a big BUT - on home form they are SHITE - 19th, with just 6 points (WLLDDD), whereas, on away form, we are 3rd, with 11 points (WWWDDL). Straw clutching time!
As I may have mentioned before, I hate Monday 'midweek' games (I'm not that keen on Tuesdays!) - ridiculous to expect teams to play twice in three days. But, we both played (and won) on Saturday, so I guess that evens it up.
I've never been to Chelmsford (I used to live nearby, but only went through it - all I remember of the place was the weird two (or three?) mini-roundabout nightmare on the old A12, before the bypass was built!), but the stadium looks horrible. Another of my pet hates is 'football' grounds with a running track - and, yes, I do remember London Road, but this looks even worse.
Anyway, as always, it's 4-0 to us for me (it's going to happen one day...).
We win we go 2nd, if they win by 2, they go 2nd (it's a three pointer!), so Come on You Mighty Stones!

The bookies have us as slight favourites on 11/8 with Chelmsford at 17/11 with the draw at 12/5. I have never enjoyed trips to Chelmsford with the ground being a long way from the city centre and the pubs/cafes and a bit of nightmare on public transport though it can be done on a Saturday but little or no chance on a Monday night. I usually end up having a row with someone there as they are just horrible people though I got 3 free pints from the security whilst i was trying to calm down,I should have been thrown out but the but the 2 security guys were savvy enough not to have a death wish by trying. Our record defeat of 7-0 came here which was another day to be forgotten. I cannot see a repeat of that from either side on Monday but I think we are good enough to sneak the 3 points but we'll have to graft for them. Good luck to anyone brave enough to make the journey through the Dartford tunnel at rush hour and I hope the weather is favourable for watching and not pissing down again.

Yes it was. So at half time the groundsman wasn’t forking the turf, he was picking up….

Should be possible to stream the game on National League TV. Wasn't Chelmsford one of the early lockdown games to do that? Seem to remember they used a semi robotic camera that was supposed to follow the ball, but instead kept going to the linesman with a bald head!

Strange to be playing on Monday, just 48 hours after the previous match. Probably no training or prep in between. All a bit hit and miss. Will the players be fit and seriously up for it ? Not a chance! At least not 100% fit and not 100% motivated. We may wish it was different but there you have it. A draw would be a very good result.

Not sure why Chelmsford play their midweeks on Monday but I guess it’s the same for both teams.

Especially on a cold, wet Monday night. All feels very temporary and definitely not like a football ground. Tough game and we always seem to do badly away there from memory (I think the 7-0 was preceded by a 4-1 in a national south season a few years ago?). Going to go for a score draw.

Something to do with athletics? 100% this. taken from Essex Live page…. As a result of sharing their home with Chelmsford Athletics Club, the Clarets are only able to play their home midweek matches on Monday and Wednesday evenings in order to avoid the athletics training sessions.

And ironically didn’t Chelmsford miss a penalty.

I missed the bus (I left work too late) to make this one. A ground I still haven’t been too. Annoying. Will follow X and watch the England game. Not a bad evening.
