Sorry have to disagree I want a club I can be proud of that treats people the right way, after Georges retirement match i regained confidence we had one, not after this last move in a long list of own goals this year, could of at least offered him a six month deal with an option to extend if its in both parties interest. No need to apologise. If he were looking likely to be fit and recovering well, then this would be my preference. I can only assume it is not the case though. It would be the perfect footballing decision. Now whether Luque could take 6 month contract - who knows. If he has a mortgage etc, maybe he wouldn’t want the uncertainty. He signed his current contract at the height of this powers so a pay cut would be sensible / a necessity, especially as we are relegated.. You wouldn’t pay him to be a top earner at the club with the risk that come with it, would you? Most comments from the club had stated recovery is going well i would consider it reasonable to offer him the same deal on a short contract, If he turns it down thats very different from just cutting him loose not in our plans blah blah never mind you got injured playhing for us so see you later couldnt care less apparent style

He wasn’t being offered a new one. It’s hardly being cut loose.

I am sorry for Luque who had a great season and is a great person. On the other hand I am hearted by George not being frightened of taking the hard decisions. Hak paid the penalty for being sentimental and keeping all of the promotion squad rather than improving it. George has been there as a player and understands that only results matter if he wants to keep his job and keep the supporters coming through the turnstiles. We do not know the prognosis but Luque is 30 and his return to the team has been put back to possibly making an appearance in the last game. We know how Flish struggled to find form after his injury. Joan had not excelled before last season and there is no guarantee he would find that form again. He is one of several players that we have been paying to sit on the treatment table for most of the season and we cannot afford another season like that. The only solution would have been to offer non contract terms until he could prove himself but from his point of view he may be better off finding a club that would offer a contract. If it is the end of Joan's career then I hope the club arrange a benefit game for him so that supporters can show their appreciation. Despite Butlers doom and gloom I see this as a positive sign that George has the ability to succeed and that we will be in for an exciting season next year.

Way OTT reaction by some imo. Joan Luque has been on sick pay for around 12 months and continues to be paid right up to his contract ending on 31st May. Is it dispicable of the club not to offer him another contract from 1st June ? Hardly, any more than Joan drawing his wages for over a year whilst he's been unfit to play. The club's problems this year have not been wholly down to injuries, but they have def played a part. It's entirely up to George who he fancies in next season's squad and clearly Luque didn't tick all the boxes. BUT thanks for the memories of last season Joan and good luck for the future.

We have been paying him north of £500 a week (probably) to watch - so on a business level it makes sense and also on a sporting level. In fact they are the two levels it DOES make sense. Sorry have to disagree I want a club I can be proud of that treats people the right way, after Georges retirement match i regained confidence we had one, not after this last move in a long list of own goals this year, could of at least offered him a six month deal with an option to extend if its in both parties interest. Not sure under the new contract rules whether you can issue a 6 month rolling contract though I don't know. Maybe he was offered a contract under the new rules and turned it down because of a likely reoccurrence of his injury. Who knows but these new contract rules are gonna upset a lot of players.

So he shouldnt be paid for what could be classsed an industrial injury? i.E received in the duties of which he was employed?

Tough call by George but who's to say it was the wrong call. Hak pleased supporters by keeping almost 100% of his old team and then some more. George has got just one chance to get it right with player recruitment. Hevwill be judged by results. He doesnt need supporters telling him who to keep and who to let go. Emotion to one side, Luque would def have been a risky signing for next season following on from his very serious injury. Supporters have every right to speak from their hearts about the pending departure of Joan Luque. He was rightly very popular. Very best wishes to Joan where-ever he ends up.

On top of horrendous recruitment, an embarrassing season performance wise, getting rid of Beth, selling Jack, the takeover falling through, Ellul's claims of bullying, Coach's getting early morning calls about their employment, no wins since November, and almost certainly more I'm forgetting.... it's like they've gone 'how can we royally kick the fans in the bollocks one last time?'
This has been the absolute most miserable season. Hard to think of absolutely any real positives - 3-1 away to Aldershot? Nobody dieing when we played York in 35 degree heat? The pie man still kicking out 10 out of 10 pies?
Don't know who will be left at this rate. Last one out, turn the lights off...

There was nothing malicious in the incident that caused the injury and the club was not in any way negligent. It was not an industrial accident in a 'technical' sense. But, more importantly Luque has been properly looked after and supported by the club. Its rubbish to denigrate George for not offering a new contract to Luque for next season without full knowledge of all the facts. Performances and results in the nls will be the judge.

We were continually told that he would be playing again in March but this hasn't happened so injury maybe worse than expected. After such a serious injury most players never get back to their previous level but I did think that he might be given the summer to prove his fitness & earn a contract; however this could delay/prevent a suitable replacement being signed if he failed to fully recover.
If we had survived in the NL does anyone seriously think that Luque would have been offered a contract? He has previously failed at this level.
We have to assume that George & The Club have made what they feel is the correct decision based on information available. Some clarification would be welcome however.

It's the lack of updates from the actual club that bugs me. . It needs official statements to stop rumours . .

Social media zaps stuff out in seconds, official stuff takes a while longer I guess.

I would expect Luque to stay in Spain, well that's what I would do in his position. Family close, nice sunny weather and cheap beer. What attraction is there to play during the winter in this country for a NLS/step 3 club.
