The over-reaction to our current situation by some fans is mind-boggling. We all knew this season would be tough, most fans knew in our hearts that too many of the NLS squad would struggle.
Just try and enjoy the ride in the National League.
A few years ago the thought of playing Notts County away was a dream.
I think many fans (esp some on Facebook) need some perspective.
Just my view.

Painful, yes. Frustrating, of course. Unexpected? Certainly not. Promotion to the NL is the hardest step a club can make. The only magic wand is loads more money, which we clearly don't have. Recruitment wasn't great, pre-season, and with hindsight, that is where it has gone wrong. Signing cast offs from clubs no better than us hasn't worked. Arguably too many of them as well. Two or three QUALITY players would have been better, but attracting them here, along with the inevitable wages soon upsets team dynamics and possibly the whole squad. Money talks and we don't have enough of it. IF we get relegated, that means a long, painful season. If we survive, we will have done well and the last ten games will be every bit as exciting as winning the NLS. And if we do go down, for me, it's not that big a deal, however painful the journey, because to be honest, I still don't like this league that much.

How about getting together with five other "big" non league clubs and setting up an alternative competition? We could call it the "Super Non League", and be playing eg Dartford or Ebbsfleet every week, guaranteeing big attendances and increased income, free from the vagaries of the National League board. What could possibly go wrong?

We'll stay up ,it won't be pretty and we will take a few more tonkings before the seasons end. All I ask is for the team is to put some effort in, something they sadly didn't do at Needham Market.

I think this post is an over reaction in itself by trying to stop football supporters having opinions and making out they are over reactions.
Not many are seriously attacking Oliver or Terry or Bill or starting Hak out rans. Not yet anyway. Its not the time.
Yes, most of us knew NL would be hard and yes most of us know we dont have money for NL level players and that the season would be tough.
However we did very reasonably expect our NLS Championship winning side to have more passion and commitment to not lose 1-0 to lowly Needham Market and to not get as thrashed and outplayed in NL as we have been in many games......
We know we will lose and draw quite a few at this level, and wins would be hard to get, but surely its reasonable to expect our team to fight for very ball, create more chances, and defend like warriors in the box, as Hak keeps saying.
If the team are battlers and our losses are narrow and every game is hard fought the fans will come back.
Also, frequent, open and informative communication of an encouraging nature from the club also keeps fans positive and wanting to attend.
Its football, you cant guarantee wins every week, but the team and the club generate the spirit that keeps fans happy and wanting to come to games. We need more of both.
Just saying. Or is that an over reaction?

On Saturday at 16.55 I would happily have run Hak over with their gold plated coach, I said he should resign but a few hours later after some Stella and good live music I finally calmed down a bit. I still think he stood there like a stuffed lemon doing nothing but maybe that was just the unbelievable shock of what he was witnessing. The hierarchy are behind him 100% so Hak needs to watch his back as we all know what the dreaded vote of confidence means

Or is that an over reaction? I meant this strand "unbelievable Jeff" is itself an over reaction. If you read Olivers comments, hes saying very much the same things as what us level headed fans are saying, after, like Swordy, we calmed from the FA Cup surrender. You did well Sword, it took me 24 hours at least.

Well apart from Needham Market debacle we are probably where I expected us to be in the League, give or take a few positions considering the lack of quality signings in the summer and the massive step up. My point about overreactions is that it is only a few months since we were patting Hak and everyone on the back. Of course moan, of course we want the players to put a shift in every week.. the reality at this level is inconsistency and disappointment when you are in a league where it is so hard to compete. What we do need is the club to enable Hak to make a couple of proper NL signings (a Stuart Lewis/Reece Prestidge type) and not more U23 children on loan. We should bring Michael Phillips back on loan - he wants to come back - and just stay the course with the team. We will get hammered a few times this season and we will play shit plenty of times. But I'd rather be in this league than not - however frustrating it is and however many Saturday nights are ruined by poor performances.

From what Oliver is saying I dont think the club can enable Hak to make a couple of proper NL signings, even though I totally agree that's what we need. If he is free and wants to come back on loan we should definitely bring Michael Phillips back as Corne has seemed less than interested for quite a while now and Booty is failing at the basics.

Booty and Corne failing at the basics and losing interest ? Wow ! Two of our very best players. When they are out of sorts, the team is not ever going to function. Maybe its time for Hak to sprinkle some of his magic dust over them. Form is temporary, class is permanent

I am on the same page. It's like some thank a team isn't allowed to struggle. That's sport. Wrong decisions are made all the time. What does a fan of a perennial mid-table team think - do they enjoy the game week after week, winning some but losing more? I said right back when we were discussing "next season" in the summer that the biggest thing would be managing expectations and sticking with the team through the bad patches. I expected the usual gobshites on the Facebook forum to kick off - but they are the Premier League generation. some of the older hands have surprised me though.
