Basically, what we desperately need for a bit of confidence is to pump Needham Market 7-0, but I can't see that happening... Get an early goal and you may be surprised, I think we have the players to knock in 7 but as Dave U says do we have the confidence. With cup and trophy games coming up plus away to top of the league then we could conceivably find ourself in the bottom 4 for many weeks and this may knock our confidence even more. We need to win and get Gills away in the first round,a local derby, full house and nailed on tv game that would equal decent money that could help towards a decent player or 2.

Two points:
1) the 'highlights' do not do the game justice - it was far, far worse than that.
2) I really don't understand some of the comments on here. OK, Steve is always positive, whatever happens, we could go bust and he'd see positives in it, but Dave sits pretty close to me and so, presumably, saw the same 'game' we did. How he can say anything positive at all about it is beyond me. This is far worse than when the wheels fell off in Jay's first NL season - and yet we started from a much better place, so the collapse is even worse. This feels more like the bad times under Wheeler.

I was one of the few who said the squad from last season would not be good enough but most fans and Hak said otherwise. At the end of the day Hak deserves to keep his job this season for what he achieved last season and us fans must get behind the team and manager if we are to survive in this league. Yesterday I thought Ellul was at fault for the goal we conceded and until that time they were slightly the better side in a dreadful match. We really didn't seem to get going until they scored and in the end deserved a point in a game in which both sides looked nailed on for relegation.

It does seem that the summer recruitment was "lacklustre". I do not confess to understand the economics but what I cannot explain is how it is that with George retiring and Gallagher leaving football and Phillips leaving for Barnet how it is that we did not have the money to sign a good central defender and a good central midfielder with good experience at this level at least. To replace 3 senior players with, say, two who could maintain or upgrade the squad during the summer break should have been the priority. Signing "unattached" players at this stage of the season seems very risky indeed. I applaud Hak for sticking with the bulk of the NLS squad but hoping those who could not command a regular spot last year would establish themselves at this level now seems optimistic at best. I know that the Clown's time is not remembered fondly by most (or all), but one member of his staff who seemed to me to do very well was Craig Lewis. Injuries during the Clown's time and afterwards were rare. He now has the distinction of being at Billericay, I believe.

The game did have a Wheeler feel to it, so bad. Still at least Hak's interview afterwards was in keeping, so negative and depressing. We are in the relegation places for a reason. Not looking good.

Technically, I don't think we can get any worse, that was pretty much the worst I've seen in recent years. But, with the opponents we've got coming up, it certainly can get a lot worse. Even this Saturday - Needham are 5th with a game in hand, 3rd in the form table and have won their last three games without conceding (5-0, 2-0, 2-0) They must be licking their lips at the prospect of a 'giant' killing...

Rumour is several of the squad have been transfer listed. Hadler and Fowler among them. I am surprised that people have not picked up on this. especially after the Hadler/Mersin debate. Two of the marquee summer signings are on there as well. There seems to be a lot of crap going on in the background and if the other rumour I have heard is true, we really are in a mess.

Blimey, I thought the club had gone backwards this season, but transfer listing so many players. If true, that would be way beyond a bad start, it means the rot has well and truly set in. In other words we are slipping hopelessly towards Armageddon.

The thing is Crowman, you have to focus on the words 'if' and 'rumour'. I like to believe that the state of the club is not nearly as bad as some believe although the recent departures of support staff, apparently down to cost cutting, is a reason for concern. A blog from Oliver Ash is due very shortly which will almost certainly describe the whats and whys. Lets hope there is only our poor performances on the pitch to worry about.

Surely just a rumour and nobody has actually seen this list of transfers, right?
8 players seems a considerable overhaul mid-season - we took a gamble with our recruitment in the summer and this seems to be an even bigger gamble as we could just recycle poor players into the squad after getting rid of some. Who's available mid-season? Either loans (to my memory, Charlie Seaman and Galvin are the only decent loans we've made in some time) or players still not attached to clubs. We need improvements all over the pitch and it would take that new squad some time to gel, all the while the fans are getting on their backs for lack of results.
A real mess, and one that is going to be hard to sort out.
