When you look at our bench there does seem to be a lot of non-players mingling around. I can't imagine Elokobi as a coach came cheap either

Football fans are generally very stupid. I can remember this time last season a group in the Elvis End were singing “you’re getting sacked in the morning” to the man who then took us up as champions. It’s sad if we can’t afford Beth’s wages, but no business can run at a loss. There is no magic money tree, no Saudi investors, it’s just us and some very careful custodians who have achieved miracles in the last ten years. If you’ve come here from a Premier League club, welcome. But we do things differently down here at our semi-pro club with just a couple of thousand fans. Yep, said son-in-law announced it on Facebook earlier in the week. So it's not only Beth, stop spitting your dummies out just because you don't agree with things, and assuming you know why, when, what etc.

Talking of stupid football fans being vocal: some of the people who are so so angry at the unfair dismissal of Beth, are the same ones who were wolf whistling and shouting vulgar sexist bile at her from the stands less than a year ago whenever she stepped on the pitch. I'm sure those people have taken a long, hard look in the mirror in the year that's passed and donated generously to the donation page that has been set up for Beth. You don't have to be a brain-dead, sexist, vulgar yobbish character, to support Beth's farewell. In fact the only people I know that have donated so far are decent and proper Stones supporters.

Dont worry about the nick, it says more about them than about supporters who have expressed sympathy for Beth.

That's not the point I'm making, I think all of us are sympathetic with Beths farewell. I'm just saying ironic the same people wolf whistling this time last year are now outraged that she's not being treated well, and want to talk and treating people with respect and dignity. I'm talking more broadly rather than pointing fingers at anyone specifically.

Feels horribly déjà vu at the moment - 2016 all over again, only earlier in the season. I really hope I'm overreacting, because, after our last experience in the NL, I really didn't expect anything like this again. It's not just a bugdet issue - there are several clubs in the NL with smaller crowds than us (and less income). If they can survive and thrive, so too should we be able to. They spend money they haven't got.

Well Beth has told us and I think if anyone knows the details it would be her do you not think. What did she say? that she was surprised? Not much else? I haven't really looked for it, I must be honest. I don't know the ins and outs of her agreement with the club so won't comment. Her mum posted on Facebook that it was cost cutting. Beth only really tweeted that it wasn't the way she wanted it to end.

Some of the stuff on Facebook is well over the top. Calling for the owners heads etc. She is one of our own (maybe so), she stuck with us in Covid (I imagine she was paid). It’s not ideal to have no notice period but you do have advantages of being self employed / a small business. The flexibility to work where and when you want and the rates of tax to name just two. It comes with risks too. Times are hard. Floodlights are twice as expensive to run as they were last season. The costs of everything is going up. Measure have to be taken.

Sorry, can't resist - LED flood lights use between a 10th and a 7th of the electyricity of ordinary lights, so, even if the price of electricity trebled, the lights still wouldn't be twice as expensive. As you were.

You can take a couple of things away from those 2 situations I think: - We had a very bad patch last year and still won the league with 2 games to go. Things can be turned around.
- Whoever makes decisions, makes them at very bad times. It would never feel right to see Beth go, but during such an atrocious run it seems very naive.
- Do we know the structure of the club from a staff perspective? It feels like the club needs a dedicated Comms / Marketing person to handle external communications and fight fires. Since the end of last summer, announcements and updates have been intermittent to non-existent. I don't think we actually ever got confirmation that half our squad re-signed or a list of players who moved on.
I agree that sometimes we expect to know more than that is good for the club from a holistic point of view- I did mention to my circle- what about Jack etc- as we were given weekly Hak updates, but it went quiet till the friendlies and we saw who was playing. I worked in a controled structured environment for 50 years- only 2 companies in that time- but I was disciplined what to do, what to expect- and Ive no right to know whats goping on behind the scene but sometimes, given the size of what I once did- I wonder!

What is a club without its fans? If games were played behind close doors, with no spectators, would football have ever got beyond the purely amateur level?
Owners change, players change, stadiums change - the only constant is the fans. In a sense, we are the club.
We may not have any rights to know anything, but owners who forget how much the club means to the fans, do so at their peril.

I blame it on promotion to this awful league and the glory hunters that still want to put the club at risk by squandering money we dont have on huge wages for substandard players. I am slowly falling out of love with football and I never thought I would say it but I am slowly beginning to dislike the club I have loved for 50 years.

There are several financial basket case clubs in the NL, relegated from the EFL. Oldham didn’t own parts of their ground, Southend are under a transfer embargo and Scunthorpe may not survive the season. If Oliver told us we were in danger of going the same way if costs weren’t cut, would you still insist we must not cut spending or retain staff we can’t afford? If we fell into serious trouble like several decades ago, who would drift away and who would rally to the cause? At the moment, Maidstone United are a NL/NLS yo-yo club. It can be frustrating, but would you prefer a return to being a Kent League giant?
