If Mersin is the better keeper, does that mean Hak screwed us over last season and we could have won the league much earlier ? Hak played the wrong keeper last season ? Jokes aside, can someone just ask Tom why he isn't playing? Its inexplicable ! I can only think that Hadler had a poor pre-season, although in fairness he looked fine to me in the couple of matches he played. Mersin has done well enough this season and is not to blame for the goals against tally. It is a team responsibility.

Preseason they played exactly the same number of minutes with Mersin conceding 4 and Hadler conceding 1…

Pretty much what I would have expected. You can go back further to last season if you like and see the same comparison in Hadler's favour. All very strange

It's tedious. Excruciating. Mind numbing.

The thread that will never end.
Even when both have left the club, I fully expect this 'debate' will still be going......

I think the question came up at the recent hustings for the new PM. Rishi said Tom and, well, you know the rest...

Has this thread run its full course or is there still some way to go ?
The arguments as to who is the better keeper, Mersin or Hadler, are many and varied.
Some posts just like to express an opinion whereas others seek to persuade others by showing facts like goals conceded.
Perhaps they think by introducing statistics people will be swayed into holding the same opinion.
There may be some logic to that train of thought but it doesn't have a cat in hells chance.
In the meantime we keep reading the same points time and time again.
Nothing changes, least of all opinions.
Please God this is the last post on this thread.

17 goals conceded in 8 matches and the 2nd worse defensive record in the League. Some supporters don't seem to have noticed that the emperor isn't wearing any clothes. Other see him in full regal attire. Reality or delusion, take your choice. But it's not about Hak. So you're putting all the blame on Mersin then?

Def not, but just saying our defensive record has been poor. You are free to disagree. Do you think that our goals against is all down to JBW's injury ? Some have used it as an excuse, but in truth Stones injury list is pretty average. I think Mersin is every bit as good as Hadler in shot-stopping, maybe slightly better. But in terms of presence in the box, communication with his defence, distribution and kicking, Hadler wins easily. I think his confidence spreads to others around him. Ok so this is not your view or Hak's come to that, but I won't be changing my mind any time soon. The other factor that hasn't exactly been a great success imo is the re-shuffling of playing positions for some of our defenders, caused by JBW's injury. Down to Hak ? Well yes. That's not a pop or a moan. Just saying Hak didnt get it right 1st time and he didn't recruit a perfect replacement at LB with the guy from Bournmouth. Lastly. I don't think we've replaced Michael Phillips well. I would still like to see a strong, competitive holding midfielder in front of our defence. This is not moaning about the team or Hak, just my opinion. If Hak doesn't see things the same way then fair enough. Doesn't make my view of Hak any less as manager, I rate him a lot. But putting a man up in a pedestal, never to have his decisions questioned, is not healthy either. Happily the latest defensive line-up changes look a lot better imo, its what I would expect from Hak, he gets there and delivers, but don't be surprised if there's a few bumps in the road on the way.

Sword2
I don't disagree that our defense has been poor. What I disagree with is people claiming it would have been better with Hadler in goal. Clearly with no left back and half the defence playing out of position we have struggled, so indirectly it is due to JBW's absence. We got a new left back against Wealdstone and suddenly with Hoyte and Fowler back in their right positions we looked a lot more solid, and with more experienced cover for Joe we would have been even better. Both the cbs we've tried there have had issues so the sooner Joe's back the better.
