Please Hak can we have our Tom Hadler back ?
Whatever he is supposed to have done, he must have spent his sentence by now !

Let's be honest we could've had Yashin, Banks, Schmeichel, Buffon in their prime and still conceded 4 at Dorking 5 at Wrexham and 4 at Gateshead as our defence gifted them opportunities. But we never

Its hard to accept that we could concede quite so many goals in just 3 matches.
But check the records, cause we did !

20 goals conceded in 9 matches.
Only 37 more games to go. Work out the total in the goals against column if this carries on, it runs into 3 figures !
Some supporters say this is what they expected and seem to think it is ok.
It's as if they think they know better than the rest of us.
The thing is if we carry leaking goals so easily then we'll be back playing in the NLS double quick.
Just as well Hak recognises we have a big problem that must be sorted.

I don’t think it’s ok but it’s kind of what I expected. I also expect it to be addressed by the management so it shouldn’t continue all season.

Do you have insider knowledge swordy ?
Is it wishful thinking or is Hadler back in favour ?

Do you have insider knowledge swordy ? Is it wishful thinking or is Hadler back in favour ? I don't have insider knowledge but only 1% of senior teams across the country concede 100+goals . We may concede around 80-90 which is the average for a bottom 4 club but I still say we wil finish 14th and so expect to concede around 75-80 goals. These are statistics taken over the last 40 years.

Reluctant as I am to feed this thread - I have just discovered something whilst writing a post on the Brom-er-ly thread that I'd completely forgotten.
In early November last season, when we hadn't won for 5 games (including that 0-3 against Darts in the FAC), and many fans thought the wheels had fallen off already (despite us being 4th on 18 points!), Hak did something radiical - he replaced the keeper! He brought in Sandford, and Hadler spent three games on the bench.
During this time we lost at home to Slough (without scoring), then drew away at H&W (a much better result at the time than it might appear now) and (finally) won against Chippenham. And it turned out that this was the end of our 'early-season slump' - we quickly recovered and went on to win the division.
Of course there is no way that we can say that the GK swap had anything to do with this, it was probably the result of many factors coming together. So I'm cetrainly not suggesting that bringing Hadler in will automatically see a revival of fortunes and us winning the NL! But the interesting point is that Hak saw goalkeeping as a possible weak area at the time and was prepared to bring a keeper in to sort things out.
Also interesting is that this was also the moment that Hak saw a need to have a decent keeper on the bench and brought Mersin in. He'd obviously realised that it was better to have an equally good keeper on hand, so he didn't have to go out and borrow one if we weren't playing well...

It was around that time that he brought Mersin to the club as well.

I seem to recall it was a strange time. Nobody felt Hadler had done anything wrong but I recall Terry Harris saying they had to try something different, to get the team out of a bad cycle. After a further 3 matches the team nicked a win without playing really well but 3 points was welcome., Hadler returned to the fold and the rest is history. None of which explains why Tom Hadler has fallen out of favour now.

It may be an omen for Saturday. Mersin hasn't played badly but he has a habit of conceding goals and lots of them. Not his fault but something has to change. I predict Tom Hadler will be between the sticks versus Chesterfield.

Call me old fashioned but I like keepers who keep clean sheets.

Hak has tried just about everything he can to give the defence a boost and tried to tighten things up at the back. New signings, loan deals, individuals playing out of position. The goals against column is not good. There is just one more thing he could try. I wonder !
