Well Bernie at 06.30hrs after being awake for around 72 hours I think about many strange things being the strange person that I am but funnily enough solar panels is pretty much way down at the bottom of my list but if you were to drape a few scantily clad young ladies across them you may well get my attention for a few moments😁😁😁😁

They're sort of leased, IIRC. They were installed by a company, who take the electricity they produce and then pay MUFC. I'm not sure if this is in proportion to the electricity generated, or just effectively renting our roof.
It struck me as an odd deal, even back then (5 or more years ago?), but I suppose it avoided any upfront investment. It's a bit like renting an ad board or sponsoring the roof - maybe they saw it like that?
But, since then, solar panels have got a lot cheaper and more efficient, so it's probably time they reviewed the arrangement and put their own panels up - there's a lot of flat roof at JWW.
The problem, as always, with solar, is that it generates electricity at the very time you don't need it - and none at all when you do (eg evening games). You can get round this by putting in a battery, but they're very expensive, and, of course, that's more capital investment - with a very long payback.

A much better investment would be to install LED lights. They run at about a tenth of the power of normal lights, and you don't need all that heavy-duty cabling and switch gear. They also last much longer and are preferred by TV companies, as they don't flicker.
That's an investment that would pay itself back very quickly and reduce running costs dramatically. It's also pretty mainstream these days, so no risk.
Given its lower power consumption, it would also improve the cost effectiveness of a solar/battery system. I've no real idea of the figures/costs, but I wouldn't be surprised if a modern solar+battery set up could supply most or even all our electricity if we switched to LEDs.

if it's any help to your speculations, I am just about to have ten solar panels fitted with 30 year guarentee,5 half kvw battery and an inverter paid outright, they will be mine.and on generation alone will pay back in 14 years without sudden price rises in electicity
