Not to mention in between these 2 grounds we also played at Watling Street Dartford, London Road reserve pitch, Central Park Sittingbourne, Bourne Park Sittingbourne & Homelands Ashford. Just for those who forgot we existed

No doubt about it, London Road was the best! Scotsman Stand was the place to be where many a fun time was had eg v.gillingham, Exeter local derbies. Even though miles away will still not go into a wicks. Thompson has a lot to answer!!! I was thinking about Thomson only this morning in the shower. He is credited with the introduction of automatic promotion to (and relegation from) the EFL, which is fair enough. My cogitation was how long would it have taken if he hadn't pushed for it, or even was there a chance it wouldn't be in place even now? I think it would have happened anyway, but may have taken another five years to convince the Darlingtons, Hartlepools and Barrows.

Now I am really worried, just look up 'porn' on the Internet for some proper stuff to think about in the shower. Or send me your address and I will send you some, really think of better things in the shower to think of than him. He was the thatcher to MUFC as the Thompson is to England.

There's a lot to be said for and against Thompson (and I've said most of it over the years), but I don't remember any fans disagreeing with either his ambitiouns or his nethods at the time. Even when London Road was sold.
We had a great ride and enjoyed (almost) every minute of it. Maybe some had the foresight to see how it would end, but, if they did, they kept pretty quiet, at least until it became obvious.

Stopped supporting the club because the idea of the team playing outside of the town meant they were no longer Maidstone Inited, in his eyes. Shame. Rest of the family carried on going rhougb

Rest of the family carried on going rhougb I can sympathise with that. I hated LR being sold. But I bought into JT's big plans to bring the club back to town (or Hollingbourne, at least...). I had only known 1st Division football before moving to Maidstone, so had no real understanding of how precarious non-league clubs' finances could be. Or the way clubs could fall victim to money men and dreamers. My moment of 'not my club any more ' paradoxically came after the club collapsed. To me, my club had died, and my dreams with it. The continuing MUFC seemed like a sad joke, compared to the club I had supported for 12 years. (My apologies to the faithful who kept the flame of hope alive all those years in the wilderness - this is just how one fan felt.) I tried. I went to one Invicta game, but it was like rubbing salt in the wounds. I gave up. Not just Maidstone, but football as well. It wasn't until I (rather reluctantly) went down to JWW a few games into the 2012 season that I got the old bug again. I guess 'my club' means different things to different people.

It was obvious the whole project was built on quicksand. If any club could have a shiny new stadium built for them by nightclubs and shops, every club would do it. Not just no home, but spending the money for that home on short term success and renovating someone else’s ground. I knew at the time it was only going to be for two or three years. Some blamed the council, but why would they allow any old development just because it was for football?

Without going over old ground, compare Dartford Council's positive attitude to supporting their town's football club to Maidstone Council's negative attitude to football and other sport. They even lost Kent Cricket. Dartford understand the value of sport to the community and bringing money into the town (and council coffers eg parking).. and, er, Maidstone Council.... don't.

I seem to remember most supporters getting worried about Thompson and his motive and could foresee the future. Moving to dartford was again only going to result in one outcome. Seems to be the same thing happening in 01634 land, although I don't think Thompson paid himself half a million quid a year consultancy fee!! London Road was the best, but we are back in town so happy days. 'All the boys, you should have seen us running, halfway up the London Road to see the maidstone aces....' oh the great times

Not really that qualified to answer this but, I vaguely remember the London Road ground, however I do remember the bar quite well even as a 9 year old, as Danny Wiltshire always bought me a lemonade and bag of crisps after the game. I've probably said it before but, one of the best keepers I've seen at non league level. Well done on the win yesterday.

Yeah and I remember gravesend especially all the friendly banter to each other, especially with our knuckles. Oh great times. 👍

I remember going to Barnet at Underhill (the amazing sloping pitch). We travelled from London Road on a supporters bus all the way, only to lose the game but we were already promoted I think. It was such a long way as a kid and I was really cheesed off that I had spent all my pocket money on the bus ticket and entry fee…a whole £6.00!
