It's finally caught up with us - my daughter has it. So far, it's only her.
What are other people's experience of covid in the family - does it invariably get everyone, or is it common for one family member to get it but not pass it on?

Test everyone is the simple answer - chances are it everyone in the house so will have it to some of degree or other. It's how it spreads.

I managed to avoid it the entire time my wife had it while in the same house for a week, and then she avoided it when I had it. We just wore masks around the house whenever we were up and about and sanitised before using anything. Hope your daughter is OK with it! Lot's of fluids and honey / lemon / apple cider vinegar / hot water was the trick for me.

But then they sleep in the same room when we're here - should have thought about that!! The good news is (so far) neither my wife or myself seem to have it and my daughter seems to be over the worse. Not much of a holiday, though - we're stuck indoors with the aircon on - watching the summer through the windows... Just got to hope we're all ok to fly back before the first home game!!!

My wife got it recently after a couple of days I was still negative, but despite sleeping in the spare room it still got me in the end. Oddly, my daughter has now had it four times, despite being vaccinated early as she teaches in a special needs school. Her partner got a very mild dose the first time and hasn't had it since. My son has also escaped so far despite his partner getting it. On balance if one member of the household gets it it's more likely than not that everyone will.

Took Mrs S 9 days to catch it from me.
This was March 2022 and the worst cold I have ever had (but no more than that), nowhere near as bad as other things.
And more importantly, not as bad as the versions that went before AND I'm sure the vaccines have had a positive effect to those of us using them.
Just protect the vulnerable.

So far, we seem to have been lucky, but I can't see it lasting. My big fear is not so much getting it, but getting while we're here. We fly home on the 9th, so if one of us gets it any time from now, that pretty much means re-booking the flight. Although, as we have our own flat here and no urgent reason to get home on time (except our home games!), we are luckier than most people in this situation. And at least we don't have to take a test before we can board - that would be a nightmare. All this has made me much more appreciative of the difficulties those people had who had to travel during the first wave.

People in the UK do not know how lucky you are. To come to Hong Kong one has to show a negative PCR test from an accredited lab within the last 48 hours at check-in (as well as a triple vaccination certificate). A friend travelling on business recently tested positive before return and so was not allowed to fly to HK for 14 days. Even so, when he returns, as everyone has to anyway, he has to pay for 7 days quarantine in a government designated hotel room which one is not allowed to leave. Of course the prices for this have been bumped up massively and the food brought to the room (they onock at the door and leave it outside 3 times per day) is truly awful and at best lukewarm (thank goodness for Foodpanda deliveries).
Welcome to Hong Kong a.k.a North Korea

Update: We were lucky! (You have to imagine that in a general purpose 'northern' accent) My son's 'Covid' turned out to be something else (although we never worked out what). The test was negative, and by the fourth day he was better. And neither my wife nor I got it!!
We were all together in a two bedroom flat, with open-plan kitchen/living room/hall, so no easy way to avoid each other, so I can only conclude it was the vaccines that saved us. Although my daughter, who is up-to-date with her vaccines, still got it pretty bad and only just recovered fully in time to fly home. She was ill for the better part of two weeks - no breathing problems, although quite a nasty cough, and general 'flu' symptoms. The worst thing about it seemed to be feeling really ill and having no energy or appetite. Although, oddly, she would sometimes perk up and seem like her old self for two or three hours, only to then crash down again. The first couple of times this happened, we thouht she was better, but it just seemed to be part of the disease.
