JDL you might ask the question should we allow Russia to take all seized lands?

How many clubs have given up their 4G pitches willingly? Just Sutton and Harrogate i think. There is a difference between ‘willingly’ and ‘had no choice.’ Due to FL rules it was the latter.

Its not so much about opinions but facts. With respect, your post was very much about questions without the answers. If we had all the answers, we may be half way to being able to form an opinion thats worth something. On the other hand, we could just allow the owners to muddle along (joke). My post was a request for facts - did you not understand that??

JDL you might ask the question should we allow Russia to take all seized lands? Of course not. We can't afford to repeat the mistakes of the 30s. I was rather hoping this might be one of the few things we agreed on!

The whole business model is built in the 3G pitch. The youth, womens and other sides all use the pitch. We train there. It is hired out. All a big saver or money stream. We have made a profit for quite a few years in a row based around this model and it paid for the expansions and will do so again this summer. It has been asked before and the answer from the club (I think I am right in saying) is that we would lobby the league to accept 3G before voluntarily switching to grass (unless we win promotion beforehand). It does seem an idea that many struggling league sides would or should be looking at. I am sure they will in time and then once some pressure is applied from within, i reckon we will be in business. The lights are always on down there. It’s a massive asset. I’m pretty sure Sutton had to invest half a million to relay theirs to grass. Not sure kn the upkeep costs. All very fair questions and I am sure the answers would give us the clear answers to the directions we would choose I used to be able to see the stadium from our old flat, and, indeed, the lights did seem to be always on. But, whenever I went past, there was invariably no one using the pitch. Also, do the youth, women's sides, etc actually pay to use the pitch? As for lobbying the league to retain 3G, I think even Oliver realises that particular bird has flown. Plus, in order to join the NL, you have to show that you have plans in place to meet the standards of the EFL - which includes switching to grass. If the NL suspected that we would try to go up with 3G and then lobby the EFL, we'd be turfed out PDQ.

This forum is great for opinions but if you are expecting a shedload of facts that answer your questions, don't hold your breath .

Don't know how accurate this is but I heard the 3G pitch earns 150k a year. Clubs in league 2 get 472k a year from the EFL. If this is accurate then the biggest loss from going to grass is the community aspect. Obviously there's additional salary costs, but with the money from the league, increased crowds and probably increased prices, would we be able to afford a competitive team and remain sustainable?

It may have changed, but a few years ago League 2 teams were getting a million pounds a year from Sky.

Why would Sky give a million pounds to a L2 club??

Seems like if we gain promotion to L2 then switching to grass is a no-brainer.

You can see what we're up against when clubs dropping from L2 get huge contributions to their budget

I wonder what the cost is per season of maintaining a pro grade grass football pitch, also if we do go over to grass the Deso system with the reinforced plastic fibres would be good if not too costly as it can sustain more activity than a traditional grass pitch and perhaps enable the community element to not be completely curtailed.
