Reading all this from 1000 miles away, I am rather confused. From the friendlies I saw before we flew out, things looked pretty positive. Has it really all gone so wrong in just two weeks?! Or is it just the usual doomsayers and pre-season panickers? No we have been poor, we look like a mid table side unfortunately not mid table in the league in which we are playing. It may take a few weeks for the team to step up to the mark and begin performing on a consistent level. |

We miss your early pre-season optimism jdl.
The matches you refer to were mostly against clubs 2/3 steps below the National League.
Just now we seem to have tailed off a bit rather than stepped up a gear as we approach our first competitive match.
I would love to say it is all "looking good" but swordy is right as usual.
Hak and Terry have recruited and retained a tasty looking squad so still hoping for a decent result on Saturday.

Less said about the game yesterday the better, very few came out of it looking good. Hopefully it is just players going through the motions, getting fit, trying to avoid injury and next weekend will be a completely different Maidstone.
Cawley is a big worry for me however. Looked completely lost yesterday and had Hoyte barking at him after making plenty of mistakes. Again, hopefully it's just pre-season build up but definitely a worry.

Don't think he was sent off as such. Just like Porter, the Ref suggested that the Manager substitute the player to avoid them being sent off. I was standing on the opposite side of the ground so couldn't really see what happened but Deacon seemed to get wound up well before this incident.
Talking of players getting barked at...both Deacon & Odusanya had a go at Pattison during the first half. When we have a fully fit squad I don't see how Pattison will even get on the bench.

Was it my imagination or were our players a little more petulant about kicking the ball away from free kicks and arguing the toss with the ref? Are we going to be the Hungerford of the National League?

Are we going to be the Hungerford of the National League? I think they had a point. The ref was very poor, ignoring fouls by Dulwich players and seconds later penalizing Maidstone. If he awards the first one the second one doesn't happen. |

I like Deacon, he's a really good player, but he picks up so many cards
Dont want to miss him for 10 matches over the season

Ellul just uploaded a video of a load of players at the pub today. Looked like a team bonding thing, but noticeable that the trialist who played on the right wing yesterday as a sub was with them. Possible he's signed / is signing.
