Last night went to see Bearsted 2 - 2 Crowborough in the SCEFL. Lovely night for it, easy parking at Honey Lane with a sparse crowd numbered at only 80. Bearsted scored first on 5 minutes, a nicely judged through ball from striker Irvine was calmly finished by Sam Stace. Lead only lasted a minute or so, as the Crows equalised, their striker having oceans of room to compose himself before firing home. No surprise that the Bears got an absolute pumping off Glebe last Saturday based on that defence. Rest of the first half was mainly Bears pressure with the odd break from The Crows - H/T 1 - 1.
Second half, all Bears, lots of chances but poor, poor finishing, shots over ( mainly ) and wide. Crows came back into it a bit, but on 81 minutes Bears added a second, a free kick from the right being helped on and finished from close range by defender Majoyegbe. Then the controversy, on 89 minutes a Crowborough break saw their striker running in on goal, pursued by a Bearsted defender. Contact outside the box certainly, contact in the box , possibly, but only minimal. No matter, penalty Crowborough which was put away. 5 minutes injury time, more huffing and puffing, but nothing more for the score.
Leaving the ground some banter with visiting Crowborough fans, who apologised for nicking a point. I declared myself a neutral, could have said I actually supported Kent's Best Football Team, but didn't have the energy for it.
A good game, quite a bit of skill as well as endeavour and hard work. Don't imagine either of these will challenge Glebe & Chatham at the top. Notable Bears ? The 7 ( Russo ) who did some good work on the right and put in a number of decent crosses and the 10 ( Hatfull ), who was full of energy and commitment.
