After looking at what has happened in holland after opening up, it doesn't bode well for us, I bloody hope not though Not looking good at all. Unlike the Netherlands, I don't think our government would have the common sense or decency to lock back up after 2 weeks to reel things back in once we reopen on the 19th. We're definitely heading back to restrictions, maybe even another lockdown, but it will take us a lot longer to do so than most countries and it will cost us a lot more lives and long term consequences. Making masks a 'personal choice' straight away is pure lunacy... As for football, at this level, it again doesn't look good does it. One player goes, the rest of the team follows and fixtures get cancelled. I believe the guidance for later in August (I forget the date) is that if you come into contact with someone with covid or get beeped, as long you keep taking lateral flow tests and passing them you can go out, so I assume that's the way leagues like ours will plan to continue.

We are in the early stages of the third wave of a serious pandemic of a very nasty virus, now with a much more infectious variant - and with almost half the population still not fully vaccinated (and vaccination rates dropping). And the 'government' is acting like it's all over and Covid has somehow got a lot less nasty.
Wishful thinking vs reality. Which is going to win?
And, before the usual accusations of "negativity" appear - I have bought my ST (and paid for Saturday), just like I bought a ST last season, knowing there was little chance of the season going ahead, and didn't ask for a refund for the first Covid season. I WANT this season to go ahead and the Stones to be successful. But no amount of optimism trumps the facts.

I WANT this season to go ahead and the Stones to be successful. But no amount of optimism trumps the facts. Wouldn't say that's negative at all JDL, I think that's sadly very realistic. People want to think this is done and dusted but it isn't. Putting the decisions of social distancing and responsibility on the British public is just a slimy tactic. As we saw at the Euros, 'people' can never be trusted to show a modicum of decency, after they burst into a disabled entrance at the Euros the other day to illegally enter a stadium during a pandemic, left their own capital city looking like a warzone and stuck flares up their arses during drug fuelled binges. For those that will, there are those that won't - this should not be left up to us as a society, that's pretty clear.

Got my refund already! Fantastically quick work by MUFC. But I would gladly have donated it.

I am hearing of more local friends and people I know being infected every day. Most in the 20 to 40 age range. Only a very few with 2 vacs. But so contagious, it is a serious worry. Not everyone feeing bad, but plenty are. The only good thing is that of those people I know, even when positive, those with 2 vacs have little or no symptons. I'm guessing that our players will all have had 2 vacs by now, so hopefully the rules will allow matches to continue by mid August when players are 'in touch' with one or more posive contacts.

The effect of the vaccines is quite a bit more complex than most people probably realise. Put at it's most basic - they don't actually stop you getting Covid.
They do appear to make it less likely you'll get it - depending on your age (see below) - lessen the effects, and make it less likely that you'll ed up in hospital or dead, but there's no guarantee. The numbers ending up in hospital with the Delta variant (which is 99% of the virus these days) are mostly 'young'*, but they do include some people with double vaccinations. Some with two jabs have also died.
The 'problem' with vaccinations is that they work by boosting your immune system, so if your immune system is not too effective (and its effectiveness declines with age) or is compromised in some way (eg cancer treatment), the vaccines can be a lot less effective. Someone of my age (nearly 70), for instance, with two jabs has about the same chances of catching Covid as an unvaccinated person in their 40s. I'd guess that this is far from the average person's understanding of how 'vaccinated' they are after two jabs.
*The term 'young' when used by statasticians, etc re Covid is a tricky bugger. I think most people would think it means kids, or, at leasr those under 20, or maybe 30 - and sometimes it does. But often it means those under 40, or even 50 (and I'm pretty sure most 50 year-olds would not regard themselves as 'young'!). In one set of government stats I was looking at, it actually meant anyone under 60!

At this point, the government is literally just ignoring data, science, informed advice and actual examples of this not working in other countries. That's all I really need to know.
Vaccines or not, with the easing of restrictions going wrong a new variant could be able to manifest and spread that's effective even without a double jab. I hate to doom monger, but Monday should not go ahead in its current format.

I applaud the sentiment but think the club has done the right thing.

One stat they don't tell us is how many tests are carried out per day. Except of course they do tell us. Running at around 1 million per day currently so 4-5% of tests are coming back positive. of course what we don't know is how many tests are because people think they might have it and how many are "routine".
