A quick Google doesn't bring up a lot, if anything, for the most of those trialists named. Look like a lot are from the leagues below when info does pop up. Any of them look worthwhile taking a punt on outside of Porter? Yeah that bloke Oojimyflipy wotnamèè looked useful

Went and saw Chatham last night, stand out player the one and only Luke Rooney. Best midfield forward passer of a ball Maidstone have had IMO...

Was he the one arguing with Zac (whose surname I can't for the moment remember) over taking a penalty?

Surely not 473 bets Porter ? Well his 12 month ban is now up and why he might be a bit of a prick, he's a bloody good footballer. My thought exactly. He played similar to Vas and the crowd got behind him. I recall he was difficult to manage, so he walked suddenly. He was then back playing against us with Welling. he called us a 'bog-brush' Club. He dived in the box, tried it on, failed- and Lee Worgan picked him up. Made himeself look a bit of a tit, but went on to bigger things/salary...then looked for another avenue to boost earnings.

Any of them look worthwhile taking a punt on outside of Porter?None stood out for me individually - but that could be down to my eyesight and notoriously bad player recognition skills in pre-season friendlies.
Having said that I thought we looked much better, more positive and in control of the game when we had all the triallists on.
I'm sure there could be many reasons why that was so but its slightly concerning that a bunch of unsigned players with no real experience of playing together as a team appeared to look better than our squad players "most" of whom were here last season.
All players representing the mighty Stones had clearly been sufficiently indoctrinated such that once again we had everyone back for Hornchurch corners leaving no "sensible" out ball available when we did get the opportunity to clear it.

That's George's game he wins alot of free kicks around the penalty box a niggly player. He also knows where the back of the net and seams to have found a knack of scoring important goals. He is one of those players that tends to wind up opposition fans but that's great when he plays for your team as it diverts attattention away from others.

Well he did little for us last time round and Jay let him go. Looked much better playing for the opposition. Certainly has a troubled history. But the club has moved on and so has George. If he did come back at least he would be our Bad George.

One of those grudge players that was highly motivated to score against us, of all clubs. I remember the outrage he showed when Dean Beckwith took one for the team and got sent off against Bromley... Diving like a sack of spuds in a pre-season friendly, the aforementioned time Worgan picked him up... Getting stretchered off after a dive went wrong at The Gallagher, and playing 90 minutes the following Tuesday...
I would not bet on him having moved on from that. Regardless of how much spare time he has had over the last season or so.
However, if he plays with half the drive he had to beat us then the improved player will be very useful for us. If it happens we need to give him a chance.

All that I remember of his spell here was that Jay chose to play him wide on the left; a position for which he was totally unsuited & he soon became frustrated. Another example of a player that we didn't seem to know how to get the best from and was much more successful after changing clubs.

Interesting, cheers for the summary! I guess you can put the trialists success slightly down to the fact they're trying to earn a contract so might be trying to bring their best in the 45 minutes they have, whereas for the first team players it's just a run out for fitness mostly. Surprised barely any of the youth team have featured seeing as it was mentioned we may have to dip into their squad this season.

The problem with Porter was never his skill, it was the problems he (apparently) caused in the changing room.
Thinking back on events, my assumption is that Jay's success was built on building and nuturing teams, rather than coaching/using individual talent - the sum of the parts being greater, etc. So an above-average player who was also a bit of a pain probably caused more trouble than he was worth.
I think this throws more light at what happened at the end too. Once we were in the NL, and struggling for the first time in his manaerial reign, I suspect he was under pressure to solve the problem by bringing in the best players we could afford, rather than building a team that worked well together. On our limited budget, survive and build was the only option, but it was seen as too slow - we needed results faster than that. (Let's hope we've learned that lesson for our next visit to the NL!)

Just watched the game - looked like an interesting match. Plenty of goals, a penalty save and the worst backpass I've seen in years! Starting to miss games enough to overcome my fear of Covid now - roll on 6/10... And Raven Constable has got to be the coolest football name!
Nice neat little ground too. I'm not a fan of running tracks round pitches, but this time it looked OK (although actually watching it, as opposed to on TV, might be different - I remember the ends at London Road, where you seemed miles away from the action). The ground felt strangely familiar, even though I don't think I've ever been there. I thought at first it was reminding me of London Road, but that was much more open, and had the terraces at both ends. Too many trees too! Then it clicked - Stompon Lane (ex-W&H), not only my first ever football match, but also the site of two of the only three times I've represented my school at sport (running, in this case). Sad that Stompon Lane is no longer used for football (if anything?), and W&H have to play in that awful, sterile 'stadium' they share with Casuals.

IMHO Bridge Avenue is one of the better Essex Grounds we've visited through the years, some mighty & feisty battles there, mainly @ Isthmian Premier Level. Who'll ever forget the infamous ' Rook ' game ? Has ( used to have ? ) its own resident DJ to fire up the punters pre game, what's not to like there.
