I believe the owner has been bankrolling the club for some time. Not for the first time has he suggested pulling the plug, although in the past it has often been about lack of support from the fans. I imagine he is a little bit miffed by the players reaction to his wages offer. He has cried wolf before, so this may well be more of the same. On the other hand - - - - On the other hand it isnt us so let's not worry too much eh.

Sad news if they were to fold however difficult to have much sympathy for a club that treats away fans like shit and been living way above their means for years.

Uncle Jim is a massive drama queen. He threatened to stop funding the club a couple of seasons ago if crowds didn't improve. Guess what, crowds didn't improve and he's still funding the club. There's no way hell fold the club, his ego would never allow it.

This is what a Dover fan said on the conference forum
''speaking to someone that’s in the know, this is a very disgruntled chairman statement that is a massive dig at the players, according to my source the club will not fold, it justs want rid of the players now if they can’t take a pay cut. We have had similar statements every now and again from the chairman which are very similar but they are usually aimed at the fans and not players and normally it’s about does this town want a football club after a crowd of 468 on a cold Tuesday night. Interesting times, hopefully all the players leave and we can start afresh as most of our better players were out of contact and have already gone. There will be a few that will be snapped up instantly and whoever gets them will have some decent players on their hands. I’d say half will stay at this level and half will just disappear down the leagues.''
So basically Jimbo handed out a load of terrible contracts, hes realised his mistake and now desperately wants to get rid of them.

Same old, same old. He does something like this every other season or so.
Jim, let me explain something to you. Dover does not deserve a NL club. You've said it, and it's true. Dover doesn't even want a NL club. Check your attendances if you don't believe me. For some strange reason, no one's interested in a club based in the arse-end of town, perched on top of a mountain, and run by a bad-tempered, meglomaniac.
The only reason Dover has a NL club at all is that you keep pumping money into it. If you stop, the club will go down the toilet, if you carry on, Dover will have a NL club it doesn't deserve. The vast majority of people in Dover probably don't give a toss either way. So, carry on funding it if you want to - or don't. We don't care. But, for f**k's sake don't keep moaning about it!

The latest accounts filed for Dover Athletic Football Club Ltd ( # 01747066 ) are as at 31 May 2019 - i.e. pre Covid etc. These show that the Clubs Net Worth at that date was £ 436,023, but that Crabble + Improvements were carried at £ 1,567,391 ( net book value ) and that the whole lot was propped up by ' Directors' Current Account ' - i.e. loans, of £ 548,124 . The club seemed to make a loss of circa £ 500K in the year to 31 May 2019. Not surprising, therefore, that the owner / director is pissed off with lack of support & ' prima donna ' players ,,,,,,

Interesting concept: rich enough to spend half a million quid each year, propping up a piss ant football club in a one horse town at the extreme end of the country. If I had that much money, I'd like to think I could make better use of it, even for purely selfish reasons. He really must like Dover a lot, otherwise, what does he get out of it?

What does £500k a season get you? In Dover's case, quite a lot - their average league placing is about 9th. In their previous spell in the Conference (93-2002), they only managed an average of 14th place. Presumably, they weren't being funded in the same way then, so that half a million quid a year gets you 5 places up the table.
Puts into perspective how much the Salfords, FGRs, Harrogates, etc of this world must be spending.
For comparison, out brief spell in the NL earned us an average finish of 19th, whilst Fleets' 3 years of pissing millions up the wall got them an average placing of 12th (although, to be fair - it was 7th in the first two seasons, before the money supply dried up, so, had they actually gone up via the play-offs, things might be looking a bit different).

Dover's first spell in the Conference should actually have been a lot shorter, as they finished 20th in their third season, but they escaped relagation (as seems to happen weirdly often in the Conference). The reason that year was that there were only two relegation spots - a season either side, and they'd have gone down. As it was, they lasted another 6 seasons.
Incidentally, I've no idea why there were only two relegation slots that season. Relegation was a weird business in the old Conference, some years 2, some three - in the first season, there was only 1 relegation spot! There's usually a reason for this - clubs going bust, or the FL faffing about with their numbers, for instance, but sometimes there doesn't appear to be any reason! In the 27 seasons before the NL went up to 24 teams, there were 3 relegations in 17 seasons, 2 relegations in 9 seasons, and just 1 in one season*.
(*By 'relegation' I mean teams dropping out of the NL for any reason - there were an alarming number of teams having financial problems, or resigning, or getting booted out for other reasons, so in some seasons the number of 'normal' relegations was even less (none at all in one case!). In 2005/6, Altrincham actually finished bottom (22), but still didn't get relegated!)

Does this mean we can get Bobby Joe and Worgs back to the Gallagher?

It doesn't make financial sense for us to sign worgan, we already have lewington signed as goalkeeper coach there is no point signing another goalkeeper coach at this time as it will eat into our budget more than we can really afford. Now if they've got a right horrible c word who can play just in front of the defence as a holding midfielder then we might want to have a look at what finances we have to see if it's worth contacting that player.
