Now that Harrogate have been promoted to League 2, will they have to dig up their 3G pitch? Absolutely, they are due to ground share for a few months whilst laying a new grass surface. They have shared with Doncaster before so it is likely that they are first choice.

Although I wish Harrogate fc all the best I must point out that there are 2 teams in Harrogate the other being Harrogate Railway Athletic who I much prefer and who may gain supporters if Harrogste struggle and fans dont want to pay £20+ to watch them.

Mr Ash has just tweeted on the subject:
' Oliver Ash @olivernjash · 2h Replying to @kevinrye The point here is Harrogate have a very wealthy owner who can afford to waste £1 million on changing pitch. So they are the exception. This action will show EFL that their anti-3G rule is fine, thus screwing it up for all other self-funding 3G clubs in non-league. '

Ultimately, the 3G war will be won - it just doesn't make sense to keep the EFL ban when 3G is used everywhere else. But, unfortunately, I think we're going to lose a few more battles like this before that happens.
But then I'm in no rush to get 'back' to the League (luckily!).

' And he is dead right but it was always on the cards. The Football league dont like change and even if league 2 voted to accept them the other 48 teams would poopoo the idea. Well Mr Ash you really have your work cut out for you now and I only hope you keep fighting because the alternative would seem to be losing interest altogether and selling up.

Why would you wish them all the best. Another moneybags club with no financial restraint chucking silly money at promotion and then even more silly money at replacing their pitch. Personally I hope they crash and burn and end up back in the NPL where they belong. f**king hate these rich man's plaything clubs that distort the leagues just to satisfy the ego of some f**king moron with more money than sense.

I just remember being at Harrogate for our 2 - 2 draw back in March 2019 and seeing Justin A put away two memorable goals.

I dont hold as much animosity towards them as I did Salford but nevertheless they are or were a genuine non league club for however many years and deserve their chance. It will all crash and burn in time and I have predicted their relegation next season. Just as a matter if interest what would your views on Maidston be if a sugar daddy turns up and throws his wedge at us?

I can't believe anyone who watched us slogging around park pitches last time it went tits up would be happy to see another owner chucking money at the dream. I want to see us promoted as far up the pyramid as possible, but it has to be grown organically. No club should owe their existence to one man's money.

Have Maidstone grown organically? How many levels did we rise on loans from two wealthy men that show no sign of ever being repaid?

Have Maidstone grown organically? How many levels did we rise on loans from two wealthy men that show no sign of ever being repaid? The club has made a profit every season since we returned to Maidstone and it's the profit that had been reinvested, mainly in infrastructure, so yes, I would call that organic growth. The playing budget isn't dependent on the owners, it comes from revenue. The investment from the owners was almost entirely in the ground and I would expect them to get it back if they ever sold up.

It's a fine argument, but I think Dave is right. O&T built the ground (and paid for it), but the club is self-financing (and I wonder how many clubs can honestly say that - in any league?). Ok, so they put a lot of money, in, without which we wouldn't exist, and, even if they get it back one day, they'll have lost hundreds of thousands in interest. But this is hardly comparable with (say) Dover - if JP turned off the money tap, they would probably go bust - they certainly wouldn't be in the NL.
Interestingly, you could accuse Maidstone of being kept going by a sugar daddy, but that would be PBB up to 2011. Paul pumped something like a million quid into the club and got us from pub leagues up to two steps from the NL, but, of course, there was little or nothing to show for it once the money ran out.
