Oh Jesus. nws starts it, BBJ joins in - with a peppering of people pushing political viewpoints by attacking others for pushing political viewpoints... Brilliant. My original post was aimed at the fact he found the need to name Saturday 'independence day' and 'super Saturday'. Utterly woeful leadership. He might as well have called it 'plebs go out and spend money mixing and getting covid because we need your money not you' day!

The 'second wave' will most likely come when overseas travel restrictions are lifted. We experienced a second wave of infections in HK when returnees from infected countries (such as the UK) started flying back home!
BTW the Korean epidemic was initiated by some happy-clappy evangelical church group, a number of whom had just returned from a bible study meet-up thing in of all places.............. Wuhan! The majority of the Korean epidemic cases can be traced back to these people. God obviously doesn't look after his own.

You'd think by now there would be a world consensus on how to handle the virus. Instead, we still have the extremes of America and Brazil (virus, what virus) versus the renewed lockdowns in Spain and Australia - these two worrying about second spikes when they actually have less new daily cases that we do while we are busy easing the lockdown. Politics and economics are very much part of the problem. The virus kills and it is abundantly clear that, without lockdown, we could add at least one zero, if not two to the death toll. Yet we continue to get those who think it is all over hyped, along with a similar number who maintain we are not doing enough. I certainly don't think our government has been effective in its approach to the virus. Locking down two weeks earlier could easily have halved the number of deaths. Equally, we cannot continue to carry on in lockdown indefinitely, the effects on the economy, and therefore directly on everyone's health and well being, would be just as catastrophic. We should be working with our neighbours far and wide to solve the problem. Indeed, at the time when we should be closing ranks with Europe, we are planning to go it alone, even though we are increasingly an economic basket case. Seems to me there is a lot of shite out there and much of it is getting in the way of the bigger picture.

Stop being so sensible 6. No place for that on here.
Meanwhile in response to the OP or at least the title (not read the OP, sorry nws you've been on Ignore for months) - as Rodney used to say "I'm going down the Nag's Head" (beer garden table for 4 booked for 8-11 this evening); OS Junior and I are off for haircuts in a bit. No politics from me - I'm more likely to start supporting Tonbridge than I am to vote Tory - but the "blame it on Boris" brigade, who presumably think Corbyn and Abbott would have made a better job of it, are deluded. 'Logic' like this is we got into this mess. I can do a better job of laying bricks than my 11 year old, but I'm still a crap bricklayer. He says, getting tangled up in an analogy that is neither logical nor totally coherent...

You can only speculate that lives would have been saved had we shut down earlier, or what the increase would have been had we not locked down at all. My personal view is that we should have concentrated more on testing and tracing in the early stages, but again, it's only based on speculation. One thing is for certain though, and that is, as you say, that we cannot shut the economy down indefinitely, the death toll from malnutrition, lack of adequate health care, mental illness etc would end up being far greater than anything the virus can do.

But it was the efficiency of their tracing system that brought to light that the virus could be caught from surfaces rather than just direct transfer.
Apparently they traced one infected person back to the individual seat they sat in at a service several hours after it had been used by one of the 'Wuhan returnees' and showed that that was their only contact with the virus.

Being better prepared they were constrained to more of a ripple than 'a wave'.

Covid isn't a political issue (apart from in Scotland where Sturgeon's every decision is based on bigging up the autonomy of the Scottish Parliament), it's highly unlikely that any other leader would have done much differently to Boris. For the record, I have never said there is any link between 5G masts and Covid 19 other than the fact that they were still being installed when we were supposed to be in lockdown, which by anybody's measure HAS to be suspicious. However, they are two different health problems adversely affecting mankind. I have also never said that Covid-19 does not exist. Of course it exists, someone created it in a well known chemical warfare laboratory in Wuhan - The Chinese female scientist who whistleblew that news in the first place is still mysteriously missing and the media has spent the last three months coming up with alternative cover stories about bats, pangolins, wet markets and God knows what else, which incredibly people actually believe rather than the obvious FIRST news reports, which are by far the most obvious. HIV/AIDS also exists. However, the whole world is not in lockdown due to an over inflated (by the media and global organisations) fear of HIV/AIDS with people dying natural deaths but being recorded as dying of AIDS, hospitals getting extra funding by how many HIV/AIDS deaths they can declare, and NHS tests which say you have a 70% chance of being HIV positive which then means the statistics record you as having AIDS, whether you have it or not. Look at the numbers, folks. Of the total UK population, 0.4% have been "infected" (With Coronavirus, which is not actually the same as having Covid-19) and 0.06% have died. Its unclear out of all of those deaths how many are directly due to Covid-19, how many were through other causes whilst the patient had Covid-19 - often from being onto a Covid-19 ward - how many were through other causes whilst the patient had a harmless coronavirus (a cold), or how many were the patient having no Covid-19 or coronavirus but recorded as Covid-19 to bump up the figures. And those percentages are the INFLATED figures, for the reasons suggested above. Whilst any infections or deaths are terrible, is this lockdown and its untold affects justifiable when over 99.94% of the population (based upon the dodgy, potentially inflated, figures) have totally not been at any fatal risk? Sorry, I forgot, Im just a batsh*t conspiracy theorist who thinks Im David Icke and the world is flat just because I can see through this cr*p we are all fed on a daily basis. I'm an ignorant murderer who is going to kill my family if I dare to walk into Aldi's without a mask and stand 1.9m distance from the person in front of me and get a frog in my throat and dare to cough...……...which means I will infect the whole store with fatal Covid-19 on the spot. Obviously. And, of course, 22 men can be all over each other on a football pitch without masks or social distancing anything for 90 minutes with no restrictions, no accusations, no risk of passing anything on to each other, if they are Premiership Footballers, yet the 50,000+ great unwashed cannot watch them from the stands for dreaded fear of doing just that, and 22 lowly NLS footballers cannot be on a similar football pitch, playing the same game. Clearly Premiership footballers are indeed, the superhero human beings we worship them to be after all. That's perfectly acceptable, as we cant do without our big time footie can we? We have to be drip fed at least one titbit of fun to keep us quiet. Covid-19 goes out of the window as far as the premiership is concerned to keep the masses happy and to keep us from realising the con. People can got to the pub, but not to the gym. We can soon go to the movies, but our kids cant go to school (how many kids got Covid-19 folks?) All makes perfect sense, doesn't it! Please! Get a grip everyone. Its madness, and we all need to start challenging it all. None of it makes any sense at all. You don't have to be any kind of conspiracy theorist to question the agenda. The numbers and the madness of it all tell you we are being pranked here in a global, massive way. Or stay in your homes all day and give in to it all. That's the real agenda. Control. Removal of human freedom. Removal of human questioning. Removal of humanity, by the super-rich global elite who are behind all of this madness...…..and they are way above Boris. And no, they are not Lizards, or space aliens. Imagination abandoned by reason produces impossible monsters. Francisco Goya 1799

Oh dear. You do understand that there are people who will die if they get the virus don't you? Although you claimed it wasn't about politics you trotted out a last paragraph straight from Donny babes in the USA. We could choose to let people die through malnutrition etc or we could allocate resources in another way. Unfortunately you believe we have to continue on the same fashion and t is the only way. Great the choice is possible death by coronavirus or possible death by malnutrition. I wonder if Mr Musk, Mr Bezos or Mr Rees-Mogg are considering this gamble

The majority of the Korean epidemic cases can be traced back to these people. God obviously doesn't look after his own. That's interesting HKStone. I have just trawled the news reports and they say that the South Korean second wave was caused by partygoers in a nightclub district over a May holiday weekend but that it was kept quiet for fear of antagonising the LBGTQ groups as it was a party district specifically for their community. There again the news reports from Metro, Express, Mirror etc also say it was caused by the employees of travelling sales company, a factory cluster, the members of a table tennis club and "crammed schools and karaoke rooms", in fact everyone but a "happy clappy evangelical church group". That's how reliable (Not) the media currently is. Unless you meant North Korea, of course, from which the news, of course, is totally reliable! Be careful what you believe, my friend, and who you accuse. Also, in South Korea, do they test for Coronavirus such as that which exists in a cold, or can they tell actually test for Covid-19? On tests, and staying with the theme of this thread, someone I know who was tested positive twice with the NHS test for Coronavirus with a (not dry) cough and cold (no temperature) - i.e. a cold - has just taken a third test which was negative for coronavirus (because that's all the NHS test can test for - it cant say if you have Covid-19, only if you have a Coronavirus). He was told he HAD to take the test by the NHS as he was a temporary worker for them - only to find out afterwards it is a Voluntary test. He was lied to by the NHS. He never had Covid-19, never had any symptoms of Covid-19, and was not a "victim of the coronavirus pandemic" (He had a normal, seasonal cold), but will be recorded in UK figures as "Having had coronavirus" as if he DID have Covid-19 as a result of this pandemic and is a risk to us all. His record will probably be used, like many others like him, to scare the wits out of the rest of us. He also had to self isolate for no good reason and worse of all is now on a Track and Trace government register for eight years which means he is on the government radar and should he come in contact with any other person who also has had a previous positive test result, if they exhibit (cold) symptoms, he can be made to stop work at any point. He feels like a sex offender and that his freedom has been taken. His crimes? He had a cold, and was tested. That's not Lizards, flat earths, or David Ickes, nor is it media reports - that's REAL LIFE in Kent, folks, July 2020. Something is not right. That's why all the media reports are all over the place, the rules about do this here but not there are all over the place, why there's no common global approach or solution or clarity on anything about this pandemic. Even those who believe its going to kill us all, we need lockdown everywhere and PPE for all cant agree on the facts. As we all know, and have done at least once in our lives, maybe as a kid, maybe as an adult, when you tell a little porky or exaggerate about something and get caught out, but find you have got to keep it going, suddenly you have to keep building a web of even more and more crazier and weirder and ever more contradictory lies around it over time to protect the original lie.......and then it just turns into one big super confused mess. Sound familiar? Ok that's enough. Time for me to set sail to for the edge of flat earth with my friend the Troll from under the bridge to meet the little green men from Roswell to show me the set of the Apollo 11 faked moon landing mission and shake hands with JFK and Elvis who faked their own deaths to live in Atlantis. Because according to others on this forum if I am telling the truth about the first 8 paragraphs I have to be someone who believes everything in this ninth paragraph, as opposed to just being someone with a pair of eyes and a brain who doesn't believe everything he sees and hears in the media, but goes by what he sees going on around him, and the day to day experiences of his friends and family - i.e. in real life. How many people do you know in your families and social circles who have actually, truly, identifiably, unquestionably died as direct result of an assault on their immune system by the truly dreadful disease known as Covid-19, not from any other pre-existing cause, or were going to pass away anyway, or simple had a "normal" (cold) coronavirus? I arrest my case, your honour. Lets get back to football. Of course if the global spread of the very real and very deadly disease called Covid-19 is truly as bad as the hype, there should never be any football ever again, but lets park that and believe we will see the black and amber again in this strange nether world between "its a deadly serious pandemic" and "lets open the pubs" and "stay 2m away and don't hug me" and let 22 premiership footballers be all over each other and "not being allowed to enter your doctors surgery or your vets with your dying cat, but OK to buy a pair of shoes in a shoe shop and so on and so on and so on. But that's OK, you carry in believing it's a government conspiracy based on the unsubstantiated say so of an acquaintance. The rest of us can live in the real world.
