Oh Jesus. nws starts it, BBJ joins in - with a peppering of people pushing political viewpoints by attacking others for pushing political viewpoints... Brilliant. No politics from me - I'm more likely to start supporting Tonbridge than I am to vote Tory - but the "blame it on Boris" brigade, who presumably think Corbyn and Abbott would have made a better job of it, are deluded. I'm not a fan of Boris either, I hate Brexit and am a staunch remainer but this is a situation that goes beyond politics. With regard to the virus, you could reasonably argue we should have gone into lockdown a couple of weeks sooner, I think Boris and his team got that wrong but the way they are bringing us out of lockdown is sensible and measured. If we have a setback then we might have to go backwards for a bit, if that happens it won't be their fault. We have to try sometime.

BBJ clearly believes, among other things, that there has been a massive overreaction to the virus. Now while I don't agree, that is an understandable point of view. However, the leap from that to a global governmental conspiracy simply beggars belief. If the world's governments were capable of that kind of cooperation global warming and poverty among other things would be a thing of the past.

I guess you can ignore the thousands of NHS medics that spend their lives helping and saving others
On the other hand why not believe in the likes of Trump, Boris, Farage, Putin and Jayser ?
Take yer choice.
As for Steve, you may as well buy a season ticket, with any luck it could be transferable.

When the first easing of lockdown was announced, the doom mongers - including medical 'experts' and of course those political opponents of the government who, despite what they would have you believe, are using the virus to attack the Prime Minister and the Tories at every opportunity - said it was too soon and predicted a spike. It didn't happen. As each subsequent new round of easing has been announced, those same doom merchants have been hanging onto every bit of data that appears around three weeks later to see if there was a spike. So far, much to their disappointment, nothing. Even the newspapers, who send their photographers out to busy beaches to take photographs from an angle that makes it look like people are not social distancing - have been thwarted. Sooner or later, of course, it will happen. there will be a spike somewhere and the sharks will descend on the government, saying 'we told you so.' The fact they 'told us so' several times before, wrongly, won't be relevant because they will sweep those occasions under the rug. I cannot say for certain whether there will be a second wave. Nobody can, including those same medical professionals. Why? because they don't have a crystal ball. All they know, as we all do to be fair, is that cold winter weather can breed this kind of virus faster. The reality is, if the good weather lasts into October and the figures still keep going down - and yes, they might, despite the lockdown easing and what the sharks (who put political gain before people's lives) will tell you - we might get away without one. I know that's not what Labour, the SNP, the Lib Dems and The Guardian want to hear, but I honestly think we might get through. We'll see. Spot on and very well put. In fact the best post on the subject I've read on here so far. The "spikes" are happening in the form of localised outbreaks. Let's see where Leicester is in 2 weeks (OK still somewhere near Nottingham on the M1 probably...), or Merthyr Tydfil or Rochdale. Plenty of good reasons to restrict travel to and from Brazil, USA, India etc for several months to come, too. I'm still considering applying to work from home on a permanent basis - nothing gained by sitting in an office surrounded by people coughing, at any time of year. My next-door neighbour's had the "you have in the past had Coronavirus" test result - she had a cold with loss of taste in late February. That's when the damage was done. NHS employees have been offered the antibody test. A positive test doesn't guarantee you being not being infected again.

If the world's governments were capable of that kind of cooperation global warming and poverty among other things would be a thing of the past. Agree. Always go to cock up theory first before conspiracy as a rule of thumb. I think 2 factors were at play : - Our ignorance of Corona Viruses - At the outset of Covid -19 meant we were inexperienced in dealing with the virus at the beginning ( And hadn't the learning or culture to deal with it that the Taiwanese or Japanese have in dealing with Corona viruses ) - We are in the top 5 nations in terms of travelers - so we travel here there and everywhere - this meant we should have locked down between 7 - 10 days prior to when we did. A decision was made to delay the onset of lock down partly due to behavioural theory ( a general population can't cope with 12 weeks of lock down - since proved to be true ) We learn by our mistakes - Hindsight is 20/20 vision. Anyway - I digress. The overreaction argument is better articulated by Peter Hitchens than David Icke - who sees lizards where there are none to be found.

...on our "independence day". Johnson is an utter muppet. PS BBJ is excluded on the grounds that there is no covid in his world and it is 5g masts that are the problem Covid isn't a political issue (apart from in Scotland where Sturgeon's every decision is based on bigging up the autonomy of the Scottish Parliament), it's highly unlikely that any other leader would have done much differently to Boris. So covid isn't a olitical issue for you unless you want to have a pop at Sturgeon. OK. Got it. No other leaders would have done anything different. Well, apart from all those leaders that did...and, consequently, had less deaths. Still, don't let facts rule your emotions.

Went out to the royal mail sorting office to collect a package and must have come into contact with about 20 people i was the only one wearing a mask. There are going to be further spikes because people are so f*** stupid and selfish There is absolutely no point wearing a mask outdoors unless you're in a large gathering for an extended period. There's no chance of either contracting or passing on the virus simply by passing too close to someone in the street, you need to be within 2 metres for upwards of 15 minutes. Just to correct your false information. Standing within 2 metres for over 15 minutes increases your risk. Being near an infected person for less time does not nullify the risk. It just lessens it. www.ibtimes.com/how-long-does-it-take-be-infected-when-standing-next-coronavirus-carrier-2938686

Hang on, I thought you didn't believe the statistics? Enjoy that 1st pint, and the subsequent ones. Mine was a Doom Bar. I dont as a rule especially when they say there are 625 new cases of which 637 are in Leicester alone. I do though believe the facts given to me by a staff nurse at the Covid 19 unit in Tun Wells hospital especially the facts about people dying of natural causes but have Covid 19 on the death certificate all to receive extra funding which they should be getting anyway. I am in Ye Olde Chequers garden as the pub tables are full but the Kronenbourg(no ales as yet) is going down well That strange anomaly wasn't down to the pillar 1 and pillar 2 stuff was it

Although he has a totally ridiculous name, this chap speaks a lot of sense:: Professor Hugh Pennington (University of Aberdeen), said: "I do not see any reason why there would be a second peak of this virus and I have not seen any evidence to support the idea. The idea is a hangover from flu pandemic planning, from where the mathematical modellers have injected the notion that we might get a second peak. Rather than a second peak, what we will get if we do not do things properly is the virus dribbling on, with local instances of it taking off. The pattern of this virus has been one of outbreaks, which have been due to particular gatherings of peopleāon cruise liners, for instance. In South Korea, a religious sect was responsible for a lot of cases, because people met, got infected and took the virus with them to different parts of the country. However, that is not a second peak; a second peak is a flu phenomenon and there has not been one in China for Covid-19. They managed to get the virus numbers down, which took a reasonable length of time." Can you think of any gatherings of people recently?

'Logic' like this is we got into this mess. I can do a better job of laying bricks than my 11 year old, but I'm still a crap bricklayer. OS is off his trolley with that post. Utter nonsense. You can apply such logic anywhere to excuse woeful inadequacy. Johnson ignored the virus in February (partly because he was on his holibobs) and partly because he thought we might escape it. Given that the infection generally came from France, Spain and Italy in late February and through March then two questions. 1) Given that we have seen relentless campaigning about controlling our borders, why did we not simply control our borders. 2) Why did we not go into lockdown sooner. I know sennockian has defended things by saying that behavioural scientists said we could manage 12 weeks, but the twelve weeks had an element of 'shutting the door after the horse had bolted" because the things had taken root. I think Johnson has handled this utterly woefully and it is no good calling me the 'blame it on Boris' briagade or telling me that Corbyn would have done no better or people moaning about making political points. The reality is that Johnson is PM. The decisions are made by him. Corbyn has gone and was never anywhere near power so quite why his name is being dragged up is beyond me (just for the record not everyone that dislikes our racist, homophobic PM is not automatically a Corbyn cheerleader). Yes, the virus is not political. The decisions not to stop travel from heavily infected countries or to lockdown sooner were. The person making them is to blame not someone else because you think they might have done no better (an unproven theory of sheer whataboutery)
