A rant can never be wrong. Depends on your view of 'wrong' but, as you've shown, a rant can contain factual inaccuracies.

I'd forgotten that Guildford is not a city (though we've played G City FC and - my first game attended - G & Dorking); just read up on Bly Spartans becoming Rochester United and how an incompetent Labour council lost Rochester its city status. Anyway - a unique list of "City" opponents from Leicester on down.

Anyway - a unique list of "City" opponents from Leicester on down. I had assumed Rochester lost its city status when the Medway unitary council was created? Anyway, ranting aside, it will always be a city to me. You can't just erradicate hundreds of years of history that easily. A city is a city. Rochester will always be a city, Brighton, despite it's modern 'city' status, will never be one. To put this in perspective - even Maidstone applied for 'city' status!

I'm just skimming Wiki, I'm sure there's a lot more to it than that. But there was a cock-up by the looks of it. Unusual in local government...

Just to point out that Brighton on its own isn't either a city or a football team.

Fair point - good job we played Brighton & Hove Albion then... and Whitehawk, who wanted to be called Brighton City... Didn't the tickets for that game say "Maidstone United v Brighton & Hove" or some such? I remember it looked a bit disjointed.
