My childhood hero, and the reason I grew up wanting to be a goalkeeper, my first football shirt was a Peter Bonnetti shirt.

Alas will always be blamed for the 1970 World cup defeat against West Germany. His agility & skill forgotten. Long Live The Cat.

Indeed, unfortunate and a convenient diversion from Ramsey's failings in making defensive substitutions and trying to hang on to a lead. If I remember rightly Bobby Charlton had kept Bekenbaur occupied throughout the game is until he was subbed allowing Bekenbaur to run the rest of the game. Ok, Bonnetti made mistakes, but it's a shame that it's all he's remembered for after a wonderful career.

Played twice for Woking in 1986/87, including my first visit to Kingfield a a 2-1 loss to Marlow on 28 October 1986.
RIP Peter Bonetti
