You couldn't make this up. You mention ad nauseum and jdl arrives. 12,000+ posts of boring the board rigid and still going strong. Five words, and I get under your skin THAT much? Wow!

Has it got any better ?
Well, let me be perfectly open and declare I have never been one of the forum enthusiasts (and there are a few) who have long since been advocating the sacking of our management duo and at least half of the playing squad
Added to which, we have heard constantly from the same people that reverting to part time status will improve the quality of players available to the club.
If that's not enough then it seems then we have to read posts which scream that we need to recruit mainly local players, because apparently that will also somehow magically improve team performances, commitment, enthusiasm, loyalty, blah, blah, blah.
Well, this forum is all about opinions but the negativity and moaning abilities of some of our esteemed scribblers are legendary.
Taking stock now, John Still has declared his satisfaction with the personnel, shape and qualities of our midfield, namely Andre Boucard, Zihni Temelci and Saidou Khan.
In fairness, Saidou only joined us as a trialist at the start at the start of the season and my word hasn't he blossomed as the months go by.
His injury pre-Christmas probably spared the club losing his to the EFL in the transfer window, he is a talent.
Zini is another who turned up unexpectedly 2/3 month into the season with everything to prove and what's there not to like ?
Andre is a class act who brings quality and know how into the holding midfield role, something that we previously missed.
With Sam Corne, getting close to match fitness, to add his work-rate, skill and guile it's looking very good.
Add to which we have one of the best defences in the league Lewington/Cole,Hoyte, Elokobi, Johnson, Chesmain and some quality attacking talent in Akanbi, Amaluzor and Wishart (ok we are a bit lightweight in strikers)
Despite the moaners and critics who often seem to dominate threads we have the talent and qualities to press hard for a play-off place and beyond.

Sword, why do you have to spoil it ? Having said that I know that some bastard was going to, it's the nature of the beast ! Yes I know Wishart is sort of classed as a 'wide midfielder' but he does attack and score quite a few goals. I think he is better in this role than as a full back.

Absolutely brilliant post. I would only add that the more sensible among us would probably regard the playoffs as a bonus. The club have always said that was the target but I think most of us realise that with a complete rebuild of the squad it might be a step too far in the first season. As it is we're well placed going into the final third of the season and maybe this is why the moaners have a field day when we put in the odd bad performance.

One win and everything's OK? Anyone who is concerned about anything is labelled as 'negative' and 'moaning'...
Why does everything have to be so black and white, so 'us and them'? We're all supporters, we all want the same thing. But we all have different views - and this forum exists for the purpose of discussing those views.
Yes, we're roughly where we wanted/expected to be by this time and JS2/HH have done a good job of rebuilding the team. But anyone who's watched the Stones recently will know that there are still significant concerns.
Despite our positive attacking play, we are still finding it very difficult to convert that to goals. We have one of the best defensive records, but this is all to often down to brilliant goalkeeping and heroic last-ditch defending. And, after nearly a year, very few fans are convinced by HH.
That's not moaning or being negative, it's just a factual description of where we are. Why can't we discuss this without labelling anyone who has a different view?

Everyone is entitled to a good moan every now and then. I can get very moany but it is usually a passionate, heat of the moment moan and I usually calm down in a few hours but there are posters who moan all day and all night about everyone and everything(nws) and these people need to look at things a bit more positively every once in a while.

Well it seems that any temporary dip in the fortunes of the team will quickly provoke a shabby response from the usual suspects about our owners who are supposedly out of their depth. If only we could be run like Chesterfield fc which has just posted a Β£1.8million loss compared to a 1.0million loss the previous year. The club's loan debt has increased from Β£7million to Β£9.3million, gate receipts down Β£380k and commercial income down Β£200k. Be careful what you wish for !

The club's loan debt has increased from Β£7million to Β£9.3million, gate receipts down Β£380k and commercial income down Β£200k. Be careful what you wish for ! Exactly. Try being a Fleet fan. All teams outside the Premiership reach a level where it's hard to make progress - that level comes at different places for different teams of course. I do think with our set-up and fan base that stability in the NL should be achievable at some point, but above that is very hard. In a way it's an unsolvable problem because as fans you always want to see progress to the next level. A good example of what I'm talking about would be our opponents tomorrow, Tonbridge. In many ways it's a well run little club, but where do they go from where they are now? Their ground would require huge investment to make it NL standard - their hardcore fan base is around 500 at our level, which might rise to 700 - 800 if they went up again (so wholly inadequate in terms of revenue). As an Angels fan, what have you go to look forward to other than trying to win derbies against teams like us and Dartford, and simply trying to stay up in NLS? This cycle is only broken if a rich benefactor comes in to any given club and spunks money on it to raise it above its natural level. The problem, as we know, is that usually ends in tears when the money runs out, or the owner decides to move on. It's not impossible we could still make the FL one day, and it's also possible that with increased attendances and a big Β£2 million stand with income-generating space built into it at the Town End, that League 2 might even be sustainable. But what then? What happens when we're fighting to stay mid table in league 2? People would be moaning on here that the management / owners / players aren't doing enough of course! That's football.

Pretty much sums up being a football supporter and indeed a football club. With few exceptions, there are glass ceilings above which it is difficult to rise. Therefore once you reach your level, the only thing to look forward to is stability and cup runs, plus maybe promotion that will almost certainly be followed by relegation a season or two later. That is the reality, so best to enjoy the good times. We have had plenty of those in recent years, but these followed long periods in the wilderness. Thankfully, we are not back there again, but not are we ready to look up again either.
