Agree in the majority of cases but would take Phillips and De Haviland back if the chance ever arose (e.g. Wen we gain promotion to the NL through this easons playoffs). I can dream....... Interesting that the fan who is physically furthest away from the club often makes the most sense... Who ? Moonstone

Strange game. Seemed to me that the longer it went on, the less interested Oxford became and some of their play was pretty inept at times. Yet we couldn't put the game to bed and with our defence still occasionally charitable, the 13 Oxford faithful must be thinking they could have got a point with a bit more effort. There were times when we passed the ball about too much, with the final ball not there. Temelici put a good shift in from midfield, while Amaluzor looked interested today, even tackling back when needed.

Tbf Amaluzor has sometimes looked the real deal, but so often on his terms that is when he feels like it. Today was a positive from him with plenty of effort, running and of course his goal. The team looked pretty well balanced with the midfielders gelling well and playing the ball around nicely. Bearing in mind Oxford would have gone above us if they had won, it was a decent performance. Keeps us in the heels of a play off place, despite all the moans tbis week, things ain't as gloomy as some of the posts on this forum make out.

Defence looked all over the place first half and only another great performance from Lewington kept us in it. Midfield starting to look very decent and the second half was a completely different game. The only worry from the second half was to only get one goal from all that dominance. We seem frightened of having a shot and continually overplay when in good positions. MOTM for me was Temelici, really held the midfield together and allowed Kahn to play with freedom. Also another fine performance from Dan Wishart, who seems to be overlooked when it comes to dishing out praise.

Not a bad game, we played reasonably well but still prone to doing stupid things in defence. We should have tested their keeper more with crosses, he isn’t very tall, yet we didn’t try him out once in the first half. The first time he was asked to take a high ball, he made a hash of it and we scored. Amaluzor, Temelci and Wishart played well, so did Lewington. Not a performance to get excited about but we were worth the win as Oxford offered little in the second half.

They pressured us for the first 20 minutes, which we fairly comfortably coped with (although there were a few 'moments'), then the rest of the game was ours, especially in the second half. In many ways it was a typical Stones performance - lots of possession and passing (some of if excellent), good tackling, nice breaks forward, but seemingly preferring not to score when actually putting the bloody ball in the goal would have been easier! They got round our defence too easily at times too. I don't really understand this, as individually, I have no problems with our defence, and the midfield looked pretty solid today. But there were rather too many moments when we had to rely on Lewington's skill and determination.

Overall, a much more positive performance than recent ones. If they play like that at Ricay I shall start to relax a bit.
And an Ibby replaces Ibby substitution too! Has that happened before?
Pity it was so late though, we still haven't had a decent chance to see what Olatade can do I didn't think Akanbi was having a particularly good game today, so it wouldn't have hurt to take him off 20 minutes early and give Ibby2 a chance.

First half was an improvement on St Albans but that's not saying much but it was still a bit of a worry that Oxford still managed to create 3 or 4 decent chances (good job Lewington's form is continuing). Second half I thought we were excellent, I thought we played with a bit higher tempo today than recent games with some really good pressing without the ball and some good quick 1 or 2 touch passing with it. Big 'IF' the team can find any sort of consistency we are more than capable of reaching the play-offs this season but any more performances like at St Albans or home to Tonbridge is unacceptable.
I thought Temelci, Amaluzor, Saidou and Lewington were all contenders for motm today imo.
PS will George be giving himself a rollocking for not having the correct boots/studs first half?

The first 10 minutes they should have buried us they had the chances. Could and probably should have had a penalty for handball on 12 minutes and then we started to work ourselves into the game. In the second half the effort was good but the skill level wasnt. We kept passing instead of shooting from the edge of the box but the goal was a good one when it came. We should have been out of sight by the end but ididnt really matter as Oxford had long since thrown in the towel. A better performance and 3 good points. Now all we need is the forecast deluge of rain for Sunday and Monday to not materialize and we can hammer the Mangles.

A very exciting game and some good football played. Oxford fluffed some chances in an equal first half. Wistheart was the best player first half, seconded by their number 14. Elokobi continues to look ponderous and ineffective, but Hoyte and Chesmain look very solid as well as offering attacking play. They would be the two I would contract to play next season, even if we went up. They make it very difficult for teams attacking down the wing at us so Marshall and Elokobi get away with it.
Second half was more comfortable because the team passed around more and frustrated the opposition. The management seems to have learned from some of the teams that have brought a passing game to us. 1-0 was a good result and what we deserved. Not so sure the latecomers should still be there, but these are difficult times.
