So will we have stewards, security and police looking after the 25 HH fans or is there any chance common sense will prevail and we remember this is NLS football? Doubt it.

Here's a radical idea. Remove the netting and let grown ups stand where they want. Our yobs excited by the Tonbridge hordes will be doing their homework tonight. It's doubtful the Hemel Inter City Firm will brave the howling gales. There are enough gaps in the Main Stand these days, that they could each be given a decent seat as they enter the away turnstile. Give plod the night off. Save the pieman some money on opening a second kiosk.

Basically barney you are expecting common sense to prevail. Not a chance ! The fact is around half of our fixtures in NLS only attract a few dozen visiting supporters. Do we need segregation, police presence, burly stewards for these matches ? NO !

I've often wondered if these mid-week games against teams with few away fans make any sense at all financially. Take away the ST income (which you've got anyway, whatever day you play on), and deduct the cost of staging the game, and I can't believe you've got much left.
And that's at our level, with 1,500+ gates - how on earth does it work for clubs that only get gates of a few hundred?
Factor in the likely weather at this time of year, and you can't help wondering what the point of any of it is!
And yet the pressure from the FA and the leagues always seems to be to increase the number of clubs - making mid-week games more likely.
There are roughly 43 weekends in a league season, allow 3 for cups and knock off 2 for postponements, and you get 38. So, from the financial point of view, you could argue that no more than 20 clubs in a league/division makes sense. But, most senior leagues are either at 24 or heading that way (NS next season), so at least 8 loss-making mid-week games a season.
Of course there is one league that restricts itself to 20 clubs - the PL. By coincidence, the richest league in the world...

Are you including the 4 weeks pre-season friendlies in July?
Otherwise main season is August to end of April 39 weeks give or take.

I was including May - the old stats trick of adjusting my sample to give the answer I wanted, hoping no one would check! But the more accurate stats make an even better case for smaller leagues/divisions - 39 weeks, minus 5 for postponements and cups, gives 34 available weekends - which dictates a league/division size of 18 clubs!

I've always worked on an average £10 a head including concessions and STs.
So even 1400 fans is £14,000, plus food and drink, minus stewards.
A small fortune to some non league clubs.

I wonder what them upstairs consider a "break-even" attendance. What money does the club get from the refreshment kiosks? % of takings, or a flat-rate rental per match / season? Just how many chips does JDL need to eat to keep the club going?

Just how many chips does JDL need to eat to keep the club going? My small part in keeping the club afloat has at last been recognised! As for how much money the club makes, even at £10 a time, I doubt if they keep half of that - police, stewarding, electricity... Profits from the chips and stuff? Again, I suspect not much. These people have a living to make, they can't afford for MUFC to take too much of what profit they do make. Beer, yes, we all know those prices are a rip-off! So, that's it I guess, the whole football thing is really just an exercise in selling beer...

The whole thing, like life itself, is pretty futile and senseless. As I said to Junior walking away from the win at home to Dulwich, we're grinning cos ten blokes in amber kicked a ball into a net 3 more times than 10 blokes in pink. Because of where I lived over 40 years ago. Have another hard gum from the rather excellent little sweet stall, I said.

Wind gusting to 44mph and 96% chance of rain. Almost anywhere else and it would have been postponed by now. Let's hope the team are up for it, Hemel are still tired from Saturday and we win a game in hand. COYS.

Ar least the segregation barrier tonight will keep the hordes from Hemel taking over the EE !

Think the wind might blow the netting and the back of the scoreboard away.

Looks more like a KSC 'crowd'!! Elvis quarter full, quite a few in the TE, massive gaps in the MS, few nutters getting soaked around the perimeter. Wind blowing the rain horizontally down the pitch. Glad I'm in row C and not out in this.
Might be better if we hadn't got a 3G tonight...
