Smoke on the water - Pat Boon Although he somehow persuaded Blackmore to contribute a guitar solo. Two years on I noted this. I was intrigued and looked it up. I will be demanding compensation next time we meet!

I will be demanding compensation next time we meet! You should have been wary, based on the topic title. No compensation, due to your recklessness 😂

Just heard Sister Sledge song 'Thinking of you' covered by Paul Weller. Oh dear, the modfather should retire gracefully before he becomes a laughing stock😪

Donna Summer - MacArthur Park. At the other end of the scale try the Vanilla Fudge version of the Supremes You Keep Me Hanging On. Matthew's Southern Comfort's version of Joni Mitchell's Woodstock. Wet and limp. At least CSNY did a full rock version.

At least the Richard Harris original has the neat orchestral jazz-instrumental section, which certainly makes up for the execrable singing. The DS version is fire all the way through.

I thought supertramp was the original version.

According to Wiki was written by Jimmy Webb in 1967. Covers versions included ones by Waylon Jennings, Andy Williams and the Four Tops of all people, but not Supertramp. Scottish rock band Beggars Opera did a version though. There is some dire Christmas music in Sainsbury's at the moment and you have to feel for shop workers who have to endure this stuff for weeks on end. Tiger shops do some of the best canned music, while have heard Steely Dan in Homebase and Asda occasionally, which certainly improves the shopping experience. The was a brilliant documentary on the great Phil Lynott recently on BBC. Well worth catching.
