Now I may get abuse for posting this on the Stones forum, but having been born in Leeds I support them as well as the Stones. Have managed to get tickets to Reading v Leeds tomorrow night, and just appealing to any Stones fans that may have watched a game at the Majedski Stadium, and could give advice on parking at or near the ground? I realise this clashes with the biggest match the Stones have faced in years; ie the Trophy replay at Dartford, but we bought our tickets weeks ago - please forgive me!
Any advice if available would be much appreciated. Cheers

Have been a few times. Have both parked using a park and ride which was very good and pretty close. Free if I remember. Bit busier and frantic after the game.
Second time I went, I parked at the stadium which was £15 I think but you have to book with the club in advance. Fully worth it and easy to get out after the game too.

There is parking at the stadium and a number of off site parking lots all of whom charge a minimum of £10. We parked in an industrial estate just passed the ground, again it was £10 but they had security available to keep your car safe. This was 4 years ago so things may have changed and as pwoodstone says it may now be £15.

Went few weeks ago in the Millwall end. Parked 10/15 minute walk from the ground and cost £10. Advertised as an old greyhound racing place or something like.
Back on the M4 within 15 mins of being back in car. Wouldn't bother considering train. Hour walk or 15 min bus journey to station but they don't put enough buses on to cater for everyone.

The car park next to the ground is massive and is also used as a park and ride. However it is quite dear (I think it was 15 quid last time I went up, season before last) and also can take a long time to get out of. There are other matchday car parks a little further away (still less than 15 mins walk) that are a better bet such as the old speedway track as they are slightly cheaper and easier to get out of.

The last time I was there was 9/11, so this may be very slightly out of date!
We parked in the stadium car park and it took an eternity to get out. It felt like we were in the car park longer than the stadium. But that might have had something to do with the fact that West Ham had just suffered their usual cup fate at the hands of a lower-league club...
As for the stadium, it's exactly what you'd expect. But I much preferred the old one.

I think we beat you 2-1 or 2-0? I preferred Elm park too JDL, used to love coming out of the Spread Eagle at about 5mins before kick off straight into the Tilehurst End! Times move on tho and Elm Park was sadly no longer fit for purpose in the end but I still miss it.

I'm the opposite to you, born in Maidstone, now living in Leeds and supporting both MOT!

We left while the news was still coming in, so didn't really know what was going on - just the car radio and special editions of the evening paper, in those days. Didn't see any pictures until we got a paper at the stadium. The game was played in an almost complete lack of atmosphere - I don't think many of us were concentrating on it at all. I remember being annoyed that West Ham did their usual thing of losing a game that should have won, but not really feeling like I normally would have done. It was almost as if the game didn't happen. Unfortunately the result did! I went to Elm Park with the Stones for the cup game (I think we drew there and you beat us in the replay?). And I remember thinking what a nice old ground it was. The new stadium is ok, and probably better suited to modern day football, but these new stadiums all seem the same. I was talking to someone about our MK Don's game the other day and what the stadium was like, when we realised we were actually talking about Barnet's stadium!

Yeah, likewise we'd just beaten a team a league above us and noone was that bothered. I totally agree that a lot of modern stadiums seem the same and the Madejski certainly doesn't match Elm Park for character. Having said that I think the Gallagher has a bit of character for a modern ground. You're right Reading won the replay at Watling Street ( I went to the game at Elm Park but not the replay). This tie was awful for me when it was made. The club I supported and watched regularly ( my father came from the Thames Valley originally and we used to watch them all the time) against my hometown club. I really wouldn't have minded if Reading had lost but I already got enough stick at school for supporting an unfashionable club and this would have been multiplied if Reading lost so I was slightly relieved when Reading won the replay. If this fixture were to happen again I don't think I'd go as would not feel right standing/sitting in the opposing end of either team. Anyway not wanting to bore the pants off everyone too much, talking about myself, let's get back to arguing about the Stones ! 😉
