No, he just wants the council to spend money on something that benefits a few thousand rather than something they hope and believe will benefit the whole community. Of course, he also wants their money with no strings attached. Does Lockmeadow benefit the Whole community? No but the income on it would benefit MBC who have a statutory duty to over 100 K citizens and not a few thousand.

So you think we can deliver a 7,85% annual return to MBC! No. But there again neither does 'investing' £19m on Lockmeadow.
One suspects that the tenants might expect some sort of service from the landlord for their collective 'just over' £1.5m pa rent. Some of which will also have to fund the borrowing that the Council have done to finance their 'investment'.
Us old people will remember that this complex was built on Council owned land. Did it retain the freehold and have now just bought out the leaseholder? If they didn't own the freehold then presumably the Council was paying 'rent' for operating the car parks at the complex which will be a financial saving under their ownership?
The 'investment' was undoubtedly complex and may well be a wise financial move. Unfortunately Maidstone Borough's track record isn't exactly littered with projects where the phrase "wise financial move" readily springs to mind.
This is a no brainer. MBC aren't investing in an Icelandic bank! ( This time) ( In the era of NIRP & ZIRP a 7,85% return represents good value).

Your point is irrelevant to examining the merits of this decision.

MBC don’t care about the football club. They didn’t even want to sell that small strip of land by the river to the club even though that land is worthless to them. If they cared about the club they would have given it to them for nothing. Same old with the council. Only in it for themselves.

I don't know if it will make much difference but next council elections all stones fans ( that live in the borough) should ask/find out whoever's standing in their ward how much they value their local football club and vote accordingly. I wonder how many stones fans have unknowingly voted for a councillor after they'd blocked any new ground proposals all those years ago. At the end of the day instead of complaining about MBC let's hold them to account!

I don't think that fewer than 2,000 MUFC fans (minus those not living within the MBC confines) from a population of approx 170,000* will make much of a difference.

As for your comparison with "investing in an Icelandic bank" as I understand it no money was lost from the deposits made. Only time will tell whether the same can be said on this 'commercial investment' by Maidstone Borough.

Your point is irrelevant to examining the merits of this decision. Not really. We got exactly the same argument then, as you give now. If they act as they did in history by wasting money on a totem pole and flowery sheep, which absolutely nobody was asking for, then the money they gain is not necessarily benefiting the whole population. I have no clue what their latest projects are so to that extent you are correct

At the end of the day instead of complaining about MBC let's hold them to account! Given a) the appallingly low turn-out at local elections, and b) the complete lack of knowledge of local politics most people have, I can't see this happening. On the other hand, given a) the appallingly low turn-out at local elections, and b) the complete lack of knowledge of local politics most people have, a few hundred organised and clued-up local fans could make a difference... Not going to happen though. People generally don't care and are too lazy to bother.
