I am jolly well looking forward to this match. It's one of the few league teams I haven't seen play at home, so another off my list.

71 places above us as for the rest I'll leave that to the real stattos out there. So that's 3 divisions between us and our opponents. And, unless against 'League' opposition, would have to be after the football pyramid had been formed to be able to measure the places across leagues between non-league opponents.
Can't recall us (that's the cowards way of covering myself if I'm wrong) that we've ever beaten, what would now be called a premier league or championship side.
In our previous incarnation I think we only beat league opposition when we were in the equivalent of the National League (Alliance or Conference) (and we never did that as the bottom side in the league) so 71 places must beat any old record.
In our new incarnation our best effort against League opposition was Stevenage whilst we were in the Isthmian Premier, which the BBC reported as 60 places.
The only possibility of that being bettered was against non-league opposition in our earlier 'wilderness years' and there are a number of people out there far better placed to know that than I am.
In Season 1978/1979 we beat Exeter City in Round 2 who were at the time in Div 3 (League 1) and finished the Season in 8th place. This was then of course followed by the infamous game in Round 3 against Charlton Athletic at the Valley before losing the replay. Charlton at the time were in Div 2(Championship).

However, that was the last season before the pyramid was formed. We were in the Southern Premier, the joint top league in non-league football (with the Northern Premier). We were 6th in the League when we played Charlton, roughly equivalent to Exeter's finishing position two leagues higher. So approximately 50 places between the two clubs.
Yes Charlton were a league higher again but the question 61666 posed was about teams we've beaten and we didn't beat them despite Charlton's best efforts at the Valley
The "biggest gap" I'm aware of in a competitive match is against Watford in January 1987. Watford were 11th in Division 1 and we were 8th in the Conference. 89 places apart.

fwiw, Charlton were 10th in Division 2 when we played them (both games), we were 6th in Southern Prem a difference of (22-10) + 24 + 24 + 6 = 66 places Also, we 'warmed up' for that game at the Valley with a league win at Dartford

Great research folks! Nevertheless, what the Blackpool game really means is that we have a significant mountain to climb if we are to reach the third round. Never say never, so COYS!

No small club expects to win the FA cup, which is why we have the Trophy as a chance of a Wembley day out. However, another question, have we ever made the third round?

With the Charlton replay we even made the fourth round draw.
# or Sheffield United in 1988.
